PIONEER SUSPENSION TRACTOR SEATS TO
SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION. In a ceremony held
October 25 in the special exhibition hall, first floor,
Museum of History and Technology, Washington, D. C.,
historic truck and farm tractor suspension seats were
formally presented to the Smithsonian Institution as in
novations in technology by the UOP Bostrom Division,
Milwaukee, Wis. Rubber torsion spring and compact
linkage are features of suspension first offered by the
Oliver Corporation. Seat was designed by A. F. Hick
man, consultant to UOP Bostrom Division, Milwaukee,
Wis., leading supplier of scientific seating for farm trac
tors, trucks and earth moving equipment. Hundreds of
thousands of seats currently are in use throughout the
world based on the principles of the model K. Before this
innovation, tractor seats were attached to the vehicle via
spring bar which compounded jolts and vibrations sus
tained by operators.
