in Champaign, 111. The local
chapter stayed with members, of
the 111. chapter overnight, Sun
day. They saw a sheep farm at
Hamilton, Mo., where the own
ers had won 50Q dollars in prize
money above expenses this fall
They also visited Simpson and
Otto Farm, a father and son-in
law steer operation where 480
head are housed on wood slatt
ed floors. No bedding is used
and a manure pit is dug below
the controlled atmosphere build
ing.
The New Holland group with
Philip Ogline, were guests of
Lebert Shultz and Boyd Gun
nels, co-owners of a large Charo
lais Breeding Cattle Farm at
Leawood, Kansas. Of course the
highlight for the Grassland
Chapter was the receiving of
the National Gold Emblem.
Charles Ackley and his Clois
ter members also visited a large
steer operation near Mt. Vern
on, Ind., 50 miles west of In
dianapolis. This farmer has
three operations where he feeds
300 steei s with fully automated
equipment. They also toured the
Hereford Breed Headquarters.
Each local school went to the
convention separately and each
brought back photographs for
Lancaster Farming. These can
