The 104-pagc report is a
statistical account of the state’s
agriculture in 1965, and of the
records and near-records it set.
It shows that total cash re
ceipts to farmers were at an
all-time high in 1965, more
than $5 million higher than the
previous mark set in 1951.
Some other interesting facts
disclosed by the summary show
that milk accounted for 40
percent of total farm income:
that poultry and eggs returned
$143 million; wheat, barley and
tye produced record yields per
acre of 34, 48, and 27 bushels
respectively.
The report also noted that
Pennsylvania had 82.000 farms
at the beginning of 1966, com
pared t 0170.000 in 1946, a loss
of about 57 percent in the
twenty-year period. That many
farms grew larger during the
interval is reflected in the fact
that net farm acreage loss was
only slightly less than 20 per
cent since 1946.
