Young Farmer Glasses To Start At Garden Spot The first meeting of the Young Farmer Class -will be held Tuesday evening, Novem ber 10, at 720 p.m. in the Agricultural Department of Garden Spot High School for any interested farmers of the Eastern Lancaster County joint School District. There will be a six-meeting 1 Quality Milk Production” course offered for dairymen on the following topics Milk Secretion, Tests for Milk Qual ity, Sanitation of Milk Equip ment, Managed Milking, Herd Health, and Barn and Milk House Management.. There will be no charge for attending the Quality Milk Course. Twenty thousand question naires have been sent to farmers in all 67 counties seeking information on har vested acreage and production of the principal crops. “Because of crop failures and reduced yields resulting from the drought, it is im portant that these question naires be filled out accurately and returned promptly,” Dew ey 0 Boster, agricultural statistician in charge, said “Significant changes have tak en place since the preliminary June acreage survey was made and it is necessary that we have complete reports from which to prepare final 1964 production estimates.” Pa. Corn Yield Reduced By Six Million Bushels The 1964 drought may cost Keystone State farmers as much as six million bushels of coni, according to the Penn sylvania Crop Reporting Serv ice.- .. ’.Latest estimates, based on October 1 conditions, indicate "total production of 51.7 mil lion bushels can be expected in Pennsylvania. This is two ■.miliion' bushels less than a month earlier and 5.7 mil lion’bushels below the August 1 forecast that was made be fore dry weather began tak ing its toll of crops. Yield per acre is expected to be 56 bushels, according to the October 1 forecast A month earlier the estimate was 58 bushels, while on August 1 conditions indicated a pos sible yield of 62 bushels. Total production in two pre vious years both extremely dry was 43 0 million bushels in 1963, and 441 million bush els in 1962.
