Lancaster EX 4-1790 SILVER MEDAL SIRE AT A.B.C. • - Brattleboro, Vt. A Regis tered Holstein bull owned by Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, Lancaster, has qualified as a Silver Medal Type Sire under the new plan of daughter-dam comparisons based on type classification scores. Dibble Ideal Dictator 1303077 (VG) received the Holstem-Friesian Association of America award on the basis of 20 classified daughters 'with an average type scoie exceed ing that of their dams The new method involves daughter-dam comparisons si milar to those commonly em ployed in gauging a sire’s abili ty to transmit production. Under the plan, each cow’s type score is converted to a percentage of the breed aver age for her age group. Com parisons are drawn between the resulting figures averaged for both dams and daughters. To qualify for the Silver Medal Type award, a sire must have daughters with classifica tion scores higher than the breed average for animals in their age bracket. They must also exceed “ex pectancy” a point midway between the breed age average of their dams and that of the entire breed. “Learning for living” is the theme for the 1964 National 4-H Club Week.
