—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 28, 1964 6 Sixty-Nine Year Old Yards Will Open New Auction Pavilion After sixty-nine years of sell ing livestock in. the pens by private trading the Lancaster Union Stock Yards will add a weekly cattle auction to its market. A new auction pavilion has been constructed in the center of the 28 acres of stock pens. Of the most modern design, this windowless air-conditioned building of concrete and steel wilt be opened for business April Ist when the first of weekly Wednesday cattle auc tions will be held. A grand Opening is planned for this initial day of auction trading with souvenirs and pri zes for those in attendance. State and National dignitaries have been invited to partici pate. The Lancaster Livestock Ex change, consisting of 10 active members, will handle all con signments thru the ring. The Lancaster Union Stock Yards will provide the facility and the auctioneer. It will have on foot and carcass classes and will be sponsored by the Penn sylvania Sheep and Wool Growers Association. A new class in pens of five feeder calves will be open to crossbreeds and purebreds other than Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn. Programs featuring horses will include an Arabian futur ity horse show sponsored by the Pennsylvania Arabian Horse Association. This has been sche duled for the opening dya, Mon day, Nov. 9. The exposition steering com mittee, of which State Agricul ture Secretary Leland H. Bull is chairman, was weighing the possibility of including three junior breeding classes in regis tered Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn beef breeding cattle.
