Live Broilers
Down Slightly
Delmarva reported live pric
ed declined slightly during the
24 hour period ending 10:30
Friday morning. Demand was
fair for the light auction offer
ings.
Ready to cook demand was
spotty and fairly good with
prices reflecting the relatively
few birds available.
Live prices at farms during
the period ranged 16 5 to 17.6
for reported sales of 875,000
head including 391,500 head
sold at Thursday’s auction in
Selbyville, Del.
Estimated slaughter for the
week end by eastern shore
processors was 844,000 head
compared to the 903,000 head
last week end.
The Delmarva broiler-feed
ratio for the week ending
January 3 was up four points
from the previous week at
2.8. Broilers during the week
averaged 14.08 per pound and
mash cost the grower $99.86
per ton. The ratio for the com
parable w eek a year age was 2 7
but six months ago it had
jumped to 3 4 when broileis
averaged 16.65 and mash cost
$99.43 per ton.
