Research on control methods
continues It is generally
agreed that no one method
gives all the control needed
Emphasis continues on the
control methods which can
be used with little additional
cost to farmers.

analyzing and meeting prob
lems facing us as citizens.
All these objectives were
reached during our stay at the
National 4-H Center, the as
semblies, and field trips.
I feel this course was of
value to me It has given me
a better undeistanding of just
what citizenship is,, the way
a citizen is able to promote
citizenship, and the many acti
vities and piojects the 4-H
Clubs in Lancaster County
have not been aware of, which
deal with citizenship As Ed-
gai Dale said, “Democracy is
not d thing, nor a package
with a ribbon on it It is a
way ot doing things with
othei people ”

Penn State Mural Envisions Agindustry
A century ago President Lincoln signed the Land Grant Act
commemorated by Penn State’s mural on the walls of Old Mam.
Twenty-five years later the Hatch Act provided the first sub
stantial suppoit for the Pennsylvania and other State Agricultural
Experiment Stations Resulting development of agricultural science
has paralleled advances in all technological fields Scientific dis
coveries have been applied to agriculture as vigorously in town as
on the farm Tillers of the soil can not make tractors, refine fuels,
generate electncity, synthesize chemicals, or perform a thousand
othei services now required by farm operators Nor can farmers
convert raw products into convenience foods No other country has
experienced a movement such as that started by the Land Grant
College system and none can match American agindustry. ,
The man who looks before
he leaps often gives the other
fellow a ehance to get in
ahead of him.
