Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 7, 1961 4-H Dairy Team Places Fourth In National Show Pennsylvania’s 4-H Dairy Judging Team returned to the county .Thursday after noon with a plaque for four th place m the national jud ging contest at the National Dairy Cattle Show in Water loo, lowa. Only 10 points out of nearly 2,000 points separat ed the second and fourth pl ace teams. Maryland’s 4-H team took the championship with a total team score of 2 087; Oklahoma followed with 1,993 points, Florida scored 1,988 points and the Garden Spot contingent rack ed up 1,983 points in placing the ten classes of dairy catt le. Competing against 33 oth er state teams, the local boys placed second in Jer sey judging, fifth in Hol steins and 10th in Ayrshire- Brown Swiss. (Turn to page 12) Angus Take Both Top Placings At New Holland John Nolt, a 1,010. pound Angus steer waddled away with the grand champion ship in the roundup show of the New Holland Baby Beef Club Thursday. The beefy black brought a tidy $555 50 to his youthful owner, Larry Weaver of New Holland Rl, at the sale later in the day Larry, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Weaver, purchas ed the calf at the Southeast ern Pennsylvania Feeder Calf sale in Bedford last year from the herd of Stan ley Koontz of Bedford. On Thursday he saw the steer go to Whitford Sales Com pany, Exton, for an even 55 cents per pound. Roy Musser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Musser, East Earl Rl, showed anoth er black from the Koontz farm to the runner up spot in the show. “Billy” was the second steer shown by the Four County 4-HMembers AwardedTripToChicago Four Lancaster County 4- H club members have been named to receive trips to the national 4-H Club cong ress in Chicago Nov. 26 to 30th. Albrecht, associate dean and director of the cooperative extension service, College of Agricul ture, The Pennsylvania State University, today submitted his resignation to accept the presidency of North Dakota State University of Agricul ture and Applied Science.
