The eight sows in the far rowing crates at the present time have raised a total of 85 healthy pigs. One of the reasons for the success of the breeding program, and these were all gilts, is the practice of bre eding the gilts at the first sign of heat and rebreeding again 24 hours later. Gilts are bred to farrow the first time at about one year of age. Disease has not been a problem on the farm.
