William Huffman .of Wash ington County believes the question already has been answered. He is certain that his farm pond, a sand filter, pump and chlorination sys tem is going to mean plenty of pure, clear water for his dairy and home use for years to come. Huffman,, had -been plaqued with jp... water shortages'ever §ipce he mov- i ed to the farm several years ago. His water supply became acute af- Cliff l, ter he began' spraying his 12-acre peach orchard that and his cattle drinking water problems early included an FHA loan for the construction of a water system. , However, this didn’t solve all of his water pro) still needed a safe water supply at the milk hr the home. Things really came to a head whei inspector told him that he had to improve his water supply or be lowered from a Grade A to a milk rating.* This would have had a disastrous his milk check. The most obvious solution was to improve the ci adding a top and filter. This would have worked cept that it didn’t always rain on order. A little research showed that an additional I simple chlorination unit might do the job. The plan called for a sand filter, pump and cl unit. As the pump works, a small amount of cl. dinary laundry bleach) is metered into the filtei water. This kills the bacteria in the water A at the house dechlorinates the water for drinking is taste free. The unit was put into operation and was appi Grade-A dairy use by the county health departmei A safe water supply Is absolutely essential for A dairy farm. Lack of a safe water supply mea potentially Grade A - dairy farm would have to Grade B "milk or go out of business completely 1 pie and relatively inexpensive system may bte the er and key to-the future for many dairy farmers For the answer to your water problems please Lehman at Century Co., 15 West Chestnut St,: EX 4-9365, or stop in the office any day.
