Both the adults and larvae feed on the underside of bean leaves and cause a rag ged, lace-like damage that turns brown with age. Assistant Chester County Agent Frank E. Bortz says best control is obtained if the first application is direct ed against adults, and before eggs are laid. Direct the dust or spray to the underside of the bean leaves. For dusting, use either 4 per cent malathion, five per cent methoxychlor, or one per cent rotenone. As a spray, use 2 x h tablespoons of malathion 25 per cent wettable powder, or three tablespoons of methoxychlor 50 per cent wettable powder, or rotenone emulsion, at the directions of the manufactur er, for each gallon of water. Repeat applications at ten day intervals until insect is under control.
