Records Set
During June
HARRISBURG Milk cows
and laying hens continued to set
monthly Pennsylvania production

Department of Agriculture report

Despite the fact there were
fewer milk cows on farms, pro
duction during June totaled 609
million pounds, a record for the
month and one per cent greater
than the output in June, 1957,
the Pennsylvania Crop Reporting
Service said
Cool June weather spurred egg
production which totaled 294 mil
lion for the month a 7 per cent
gain over the 275 million for June
1957, the Crop Reporting Service
added. The number of layers de
clined less than usual from May
to June.
Seasonally low milk prices and
la\ orable slaughter prices for low
producing cows removed from
dairy herds continued to reduce
cow numbers on state farms Pro

pound above a year earlier but

The number of milk cows on
Pennsylvania farms during June
was estimated at 931,000 or 11,000
fewer than in June 1957 Milk pro
duction for the first six months of
the year totaled 3,521 million
pounds, five per cent above the
same period of last year and 17
per cent over the 10-year average
from 1946 to 1957.

lion eggs, two per cent below the
lutput of the same period of last
/ear. The number of layers on
Pennsylvania farms in June to
taled 16,184,000, three per cent
more than in June, 1957.
Egg prices received by farmers
m June 15 declined one cent per
lozen from a month earlier, but
u 40 cents averaged 7 cents above
June 1957
