Pennsylvania were purchased at
a total price of $14,080 or an av
erage of $521 a head.
The animals came from the fol
lowing herds; Harold K Book,
Ronks, five heifers, one bull; Wil
liam A. Reid, Oxford, four heif
ers, one bull, John M. Umble, At
glen, one heifer; John C. Metzler,
Christiana Lane, two heifers; Rob
ert C. Groff, Quarryville, one
heifer.

The two Jersey animals were
fro mthe Miller herd.
A TOTAL OF 53 head were
shipped on July 11 and 12 from
Idlewilde Airport. Long Island,
N.Y. These loads included 47 Hol
stcins and six Jerseys.
The origial plan was to buy 15
Holstein bulls and 30 Holstein
heifers between the ages of four
months and a year. Two bull
calves were added from the Belts
ville herd in Maryland, a gift from
the United States government to
the government of Turkey.
Some of the bulls will be used
artificially to improve the pro
duction of the native cattle of
Turkey. Most of the heifers will
be kept m a breeding herd to pro
\ide future foundation stock.

Agriculture. He is also responsi
ble for the task of setting up herd
books for the various kinds of
purebred livestock being import
ed. . ,
Other representatives were
Baha Ondes, assistant general di
rector of Veterinarian Service,
and Osman Buyukkaya, director
of the Pendik Bacteriological In
stitute at Istanbul.
THEY WERE accompanied by
F. A. Ralston of Big Timber,
Mont, who has been in Turkey
several years as livestock adviser
to the Ministry of Agriculture.
