Pre-Thanksgiving Sale Sees Only
5,500 Birds Sold at Lancaster
LANCASTER With buyers
unwilling to receive and move

holidays, low bids caused produc
ers to decline to sell 39,500 of the
45,000 birds offered at the Nov.
21 auction at the Lancaster Poul
try Exchange
With only three lots being sold,
no average could be determined
fairly for the sale. The price paid
for those birds sold was 16V2, 16-
% and 17% cents.
A year ago, the auction was on
the Friday following Thanksgiv
ing. The average for this -sale
was 18.06 cents with 34,625 broil
ers being moved

BALTIMORE, Nov 25 The
initial session of the Thanksgiv
ing shortened week opened with
only a moderate volume of cattle
on hand. The offerings were fair
ly well divided between slaughter
steers, heifers and cows Most of
the steers and heifers graded
good although several lots mixed
good and choice were also avail
able Trading was fairly active
with the decreased recipts stimu
lating buyer interest -and com
petative ' trading resulted in
stiong to higher prices for most
classes. Steers and heifers found
outlet at strong to 50# higher
levels while cows and bulls led
