AFFECT OF PROTEIN
ON EGG LAYING
Hens getting a diet containing
17 and 18 3 per cent protein laid
about 5 per cent more eggs than
hens getting 15.7 per cent protein,
according to a 10-month experi
ment conducted by the Tennessee
Agricultural Experiment Station.
The addition of 6.6 per cent sta
bilized yellow grease to the diet
did not affect egg production very
much but feed utilization by hens
getting the grease was improved,
and egg size was significantly in
creased The Tennessee research
ers also report that the shells of
eggs laid by hens receiving the
grease were thinner than the
shells of eggs laid by hens getting
no grease in their diets.

Letter to the Editor
Dear Sirs; Just a few lines (to
tell you how much we enjoy
your paper My cousin and wife
from Willow Street, after visit
ing us on our farm a couple of
years ago, sent us a subscription
to your paper.
I enjoy the Farm Wife and
Family pages My husband likes
the farm news.
My father who stays with us
during the summer months also
enjoys it as Lancaster County is
his old home place. He came
from there some 60 years ago,
and his family still lives there.
We notice that the crop and
weather conditions are bad in
the East We are enjoying nice
rains and the crops look real
good around here.
