Plans are now complete at the Village of Intercourse, for its an nual Dutch Summer Jubilee, Aug, 16,17 and 18. A week end of •aried entertainment and good mating is in store for those attend. On Friday evening there will be held a donkey baseball game a here the Amish boys will play ithers in the town During an'intermission a spe cial ceremony will be held to in troduce and quiz the Air Force oilots who last October, because of bad weather and lack of fuel, safely landed a large two-engine plane in a cornfield, narrowly missing the town Before the ball |ame the pilots and wives will be treated to an Amish dinner at thei home of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan/ Esh, on whose farm the plane was ’anded. The Saturday activities will be gin with a Country Kitchen Tour from 9 am. until noon. In many the housewife will be preparing some food pecular to the Penn sylvania Dutch community which vill be offered for sale Visitors vill see a quilting bee in progress, iisplays of quilts and antiques bread, cookie, apple-butter and soap making, cheese making: lour grinding, etc Hostesses will 112 Students Study Quality At Egg School COLUMBUS, Ohio Three "oreign countries, the District of Columbia and 19 states were re presented among the 112 students attending a four-day school on egg, quality and grading at Ohio State University, here. The unusual “college” spon sored by the Northeastern Poultry Producers Council (NEPCO), was designed to train poultry industry personnel in the art of supplying the nation’s housewives with higher quality eggs. Using special candling lights, students were trained in selecting eggs for superior interior quality, as well as the move obvious out ward appearances. The teaching staff consisted of 34 eggs quality and marketing experts from a dozen states, each a specialist in his field Ohio led the registration list with 36 students, with New York, Pennsylvania and Indiana rank ing downward in that order. Two students flew in from Puerto Rico' for the school, while India and Canada each supplied one. A chicken barbecue in nearby North Worthington, prepared by Emil Malinovsky, Ohio extension poultryman and Bruce Davisson, secretary of the Ohio Poultry Council, lent a period of relaxa tion to the four day school. Examinations, both written and candling, climaxed the school.. Those who successfully passed will receive certificates showing their proficiency Three citations were present ed in brief ceremonies at the bar becue. The first went to E. J. Law less, Jr., of the Pennsylvania De partment of Agriculture, for at tending 25 of the annual schools. The wife of Proffessor Emeritus H. E. Botsford, Ithaca, N. Y, re ceived the second for “permitting her husband to attend for 25 years.” The third of the citations went to Dr. Alfred Van Wagenen, man aging director of the Council, in recognition of his years of out standing service to the poultry industry. This was the 26th annual egg grading and quality school spon sored by NEPPCO- They have been staged in nearly all of the 14 states that makes up the Council territory ranging from Maine to West Virginia and westward to Ohio be on hand at each home At 1 “p.m. there will begin a Horse Show where a hundred horses and ponies will compete in, nineteen events for money, silver trophies and ribbons There will be a special Western Calf Roping event A steam engine demonstra tion will be included. At 4 to 8 p m. there will be a checken barbeque. There will be nothing of a com mercial nature on the Sabbath At 7 pm. during the sunset hour there will be an old-fashioned open air hymn sing. On the school grounds approximately a thou sand people will gather singing the old hymns of praise. The summer jubilee is arranged bj the Intercourse Civic Assn, and proceeds are to go for pay ment of debt incurred by the re cent purchase of five acres of land to be improved for use as a com munity park.
