The av erage was 23.60 cents This is the highest average since the same week a year ago. In addition to the broilers, two. lots of Silver Cross cockerels sold for 21 Va and 21% cents. LORENSON Federal-State Market News Service LANCASTER Broad demand and fairly active trading pushed prices higher this week on prac tical all species of slaughter live stock at the Lancaster market. CATTLE: 3.897, week ago 2,735. With dressed beef finding a fairly good outlet in Eastern consum ing centers this week demand was good for slaughter steers and moderately active trading push ed prices 50 cents to $l-00 higher than last week- Best action cen tered on steers grading good and choice. Quality was much im proved from the previous week. Bulk of the choice grade steers 1,000-1,250 lbs.-sold from $24- 25.50, high choice and mixed choice and prime brought- $25.75- 26.50, one load 1,335 lb. prime steers turned at $26.75 and a part load 1,180 lb. weights reach ed $27.75, highest since Novem ber 1956 Good and low choice fed steers tiirned from $22.50- 23.75 with sonTe standard and low good $2O-22.25. Cows sold strong to 25 cents higher, and bulls fully steady to strong. Bulk cutter, utility and com mercial cows brought $13.50-16.50, canners and low grade cutters $ll-13.25. Utility and commercial j¥ bulls sold from $18.50-20.50, good led yearling bulls to $21.50, odd head to $22/ Stockers and feeders sold steady to 50 cents higher with, the advance mainly on partly fat ened two-way steers. Several lota steers grading good and low choice from a killing standpoint went for further feeding from, $22.50-24.25, these weighing 920- 1,050 lbs. One part load 1,080 lb. weights carrying considerable! quality went to a feedlot at $25.00, Bulk medium and good stockers and light feeders 500-800 lbs. brought $2O-22.50 with common and medium $l7-19.50. Barrows and gilts' around 50-75 cents higher than late last week, sows strong to 50 cents up. Bulls barrows and gilts mixed US 1-3, 180-240 in Wednesday’s trading, $21.25-21.75, several small lota No. 1 and 2, 200-220 lbs. $22.
