The Lancaster County Poultry Assn, owners and builders of the building, assured the City of Lan ancaster that the building would augment and supplement the functions of the center. Originally planned to cost about $30,000, construction costs proved to be higher than planned, and certain additions and improve ments were made to the brick and block structure that raised the final cost to about $60,000. There was $14,000 in the asso ciation treasury when the ground was broken Since that time, $15,- 000 has been added fiom a $lOO a plate dinner, $3,500 from a $25 a plate dinner, and many dollars have been contributed. Although the building is not completely paid for now, the mor tgage is low enough that a long term payment plan has been es tablished that will allow retire ment of the debt in a few yeais Excavating was completed June 26; the steelwork was started Sept 14 and the building was oc cupied early this year. The building is completely fire proof with concrete floors and metal fixtures Of two story con struction now (full basement and ground floor) the architects plans call for extensions both up and out as the need arises. The ground floor consists of a large room with a platform on the east end that is now used as the auction and meeting room, a small anteroom on the west side, and offices and restrooms at the front or south side In the basement there are two rooms that can be used for meet ings or storage Plans are for cooking facilities to be installed m one room, thus allowing small dinner meetings to be held The Center is available now for meetings by farm groups A nomi nal fee is made for the use of the building for all but youth groups This spring the grounds were completely landscaped. Lying on the north side of Highway 230 (the Harrisburg Pike) the lawns are spacious and gently sloping. Young shade trees have been, planted completely around the (Continued on page 5) Congratulations HERR’S LANCASTER COUNTY NURSERIES R. D. 6 LANCASTER; Electrical Work by ELMER E. BRUBAKER R.
