H SPOTLIGHT on ALCOHOL » II MM YOUNG MAN WITH A CONSCIENCE Pat Boone, popular young TV singing star, turned down three separate offers for a network show of his own, finally signing up with ABC. His reason? The three rejected offers were from cigaret and beer sponsors. TV Guide quotes this young man with a conscience as follows: - “I realized these people want ed me because of my influence with teenagers. I am personally opposed to both smoking and drinking and do not want to be responsible for influencing any one else in taking them up.” A little more of that kind of spirit on the part of sport and entertainment idols could do a lot to curb the delinquency drift.
