Fanners Fair
In 25th Year
Farm Show time is well under
way in communities throughout
Lancaster County. Some local
fairs are now in progress; oth
ers already pis*, and several re
main- on the fall calendar
Among those scheduled for next
week is the New Holland Farm
ers Fair, one of the most exten
sive observances of its type in
the area. The Farmers Fair, to
be held m the borough of New
Holland, will nun from Wednes
day, Oct 3 through Saturday,
Oct. 6.
Staged by the New Holland
Farmers Day Association, the
1956 annual street fair will
mark its 25th anniversary.
President Robert O. Whitmore
has announced that many
special events are being plan
ned for the' occasion. In anti
cipation of the 25th birthday
celebration and the expanded
Farmers Fair program, the As
sociation expects that all previ-
ous attendance records will be
surpassed during this year’s
' observance. In the four-day
period last season, the Fair
drew an estimated 90,000 peo-
ple.
One highlight of the big birth
day party for the Farmers Fair
will be the presentation of $3OO
in free merchandise certificates,
redeemable in New Holland
stores and business places. This

sociation. On each of the four
nights three $25 00 m merchan
dise certificates will be awarded.
Speaking of cakes, remem
ber how you always yearn to
taste those baked goods on
exhibit? In New Holland, you
can! On Wednesday afternoon
at 1:30, after the pastries and
candies have been judged, you
can devour your favorite prize
winning cake, pie, or candy.
You can buy it at auction; all
but one slice, to be kept for
display purposes. The Com
munity Memorial Park Asso
ciation, with Paul Z. Martin as
auctioneer, will conduct the
proceedings. Proceeds will go
toward the Park Fund.
The Farmers Fair Parade will
officially open the 1956 event
at 7 30 on Wednesday night, Oct
3 The huge parade, incorporat
ing the industrial, commercial,
and Mummer’s divisions, will ba
cohducted by the Young Men’s
Business League of the borough
In addition to various unclassi
fied prizes, more than $1,250
will be awarded in cash to win
ners in the eighteen classes

mer The parade, itself twenty-
years old in 1956, will be
held rain or shine.
On Thursday evening, a Youth
for Christ program will be pre
sented. in charge of Robert L
Neff, of Lancaster, the Youth
for Christ musical director. The
program, to be entirely musical
in nature, will feature vocal and
instrumental numbers There
will be solos, duets, and quartet
selections by young men and

Friday is Kid’s Day for Fair!
That afternoon, it’s all Out for
all kids, with free prizes and
free rides. A free brand new
bicycle will be awarded to some
lucky boy or girl. Robert J.
Witmer is in charge
Children’s event
Friday night at 7:30, the
Ret Parade, sponsored by Mar
tin’s Store, will go on the
march. It is under the direc
tion of New Holland Cub
Pack No. 148. Cash prizes of
$l5O will be presented. The
Garden Spot High School Band,
of the Eastern Lancaster Coun
ty Jointure, will lead the Pet
Parade. Under the direction
Paul H.White, the band will
also pfay a concert at 9:30
o’clock Friday night at the
bandstand in front of the New
Holland High School.
The Baby Parade will take
place at 4.00 Saturday afternoon.
Always a high point of interest
during the Fair, this parade is
sponsored by Groff’s "Hardware,
and is conducted by the New
Holland Business and Profes
sional Women’s Club. The Gar
den Spot High School Band will
also lead the Baby Parade. Mrs.
Mary Lahet is chairman of the
parade.
1956 college graduates, now
tackling the economic problems
connected with making a living,
will find that there is some
difference between going Uf col
lege and going to work.
