J.—Tax-pinch ed poultrymen will have their problems scanned bygone of the nation’s top income tax critics at the NEPPCO Exposition in Syra cust, N. Y., Oct. 2-4. T. Coleman Andrews, form er U. S. Commissioner of In ternal Revenue and an out spoken critic of U. S. income tax laws, will be the featured speaker during the second day of the exposition, sponsored by the Northeastern Poultry Pro ducers Council, in the War Memorial Building. His scath ing denunciations of our tax structure have made him a top attraction as a speaker, and the subject of numerous articles in some of the nation’s finest slick-paper publications. Andrews has charged and proved that income taxation v, as conceived upon a ‘ soak the iich” philosophy that has gone unchanged in better than 40 years. Taxes are too complicated, Andrews believes, and they un fairly penalize the folks who are most productive and capable. Andrews is only one of the top speakers who will take part in “NEPPCO’s World Series of the Poultry Industry.” Accord ing to Dr. Alfred Van Wagen en, NEPPCO managing direc tor, the speaking line-up will include such topics as a knock down, drag-out “rhubarb” on the merits of inbred chickens versus purebreds, cage layer housing and management, ver tical integration and the causes behind vaccination breaks. This Poultry Festival and Dutch Days celebration was at tended by at least 200,000 peo ple, mostly of city origin and is the largest Poultry Festival within the United States, as re ported by Homer J. Bicksler, Chairman of the Poultry Festi val. Mr. Walter S Shearer, Chair man of the Program and Publi city Committee reports that be fore an audience of 7,000 people, the guest speaker, The Honorable Ezra Taft Benson, U S. Secre tary of Agriculture, offered great praise to the poultry industry for tiying to solve their own prob lems without the aid of Govern ment Included in the party to meet Secretary and Mrs Benson were Pennsylvanias’ Secret ary of Agriculture, Dr William L Hen ning, the former Secretary jot Agriculture and at present a aide to Secretary Benson, Miles Horst; as well as Robert D. Mc- Millen, Assistant to Secretary Benson. Other features of the Poultry Festival were the Poultry Queen and Chicken Cooking ' Contests. The Poultrymen were proud to present the contest ants .as they identified them selves as being “products” of our homes and our farms, of which they were proud; as Pennsylvania is a state which is noted for its fine cooks and pretty girls. Mrs. Ezra Taft Benson crowned the new Queen, Miss Elizabeth Erb of Lebanon and the new Cooking Champion, Mrs. Edna Sands of Tunkhannock, Fa. The Pennsylvania State Poul try Federation was responsible for the entire gala Poultry Festi val, as it is .responsible for many other activities of the poultry men throughout our great Com monwealth.
