Division of the American Cancer Society for 1955 and
1956, receives the Society’s Sword of Hope Trophv from
Wisconsin Governor Walter J. Kohler. Governor Kohler,
chairman of the ACS national board, presents the citation
to Mr. Waring in recognition of his services in the fight
against cancer. The ceremony took place before millions
of TV viewers who saw Waring celebrate his fortieth year
in show business.

Cancer Drive
The Pennsylvania Division of
the American Cancer Society has
received fore than $1,632,000
from citizens of the Common
wealth who contributed to the
1956 Cancer Crusade, it was
announced today by Fred War
ing, state campaign chairman.
This amount is $lOO,OOO great
er than the $1,432,000 contrib
uted in the 1955 Cancer Cru
sade, reported Mr. Waring.
Some Returns Incomplete
Mr. Waring said that while
the campaign is completed in
most sections of the state, there
are still a few county units
whose final returns are incom
plete, and the total subscription
to the 1956 Crusade is expected
to show an increase by the end
of the Society’s fiscal year,
August 31.

allocated for cancer research
throughout the United Stages
and for national projects to“de
velop educational aids
professional and lay persons. A
share of the nation-wide research
program is active in Pennsyl
vania institutions where the na
tional program is supporting
cancer research with grants
amounting to approximately half
a million dollars.

In recognition of his work as
state campaign chairman for
the past two years, Waring has
been presented with a national
ACS citation by Wisconsin Gov
ernor Walter J. Kohler who is
chairman of the Society’s na
tional board of directors.
