'His was the sole Chester Co-’ unty winner, placing third a mong 233 entries* and eighth m the state .-finals at Altoona m a contest of 747 Mr Clanton is a ! junior at Unionville - Chadds Ford School, ~ and he grew his chicken under supervision of W. Ross Wise, instructor in voca tional agriculture.- This was the sixth consecutive year for a win ner to emerge in the C O.T. con test from the Clanton household Heads FFA Chapter During the 1955-1956 year, Jim was president of the Union vxlie FFA Chapter. Mr Logan took Clanton and Clyde Jackson, Chester county supervisors of vocational agri culture, to Altoona in his plane on May 15, where Jim placed eighth in state finals At cere monies that afternoon, his a ward was presented HJis Birds Gross $132 Mrs George A Leader, wife of Pennsylvania’s governor, and Dr William L Henning, Pen nsylvania secretary of agricul ture, assisted V A Martin, as sitant chief of agricultural ed ucation in Pennsylvania, in the presentation of awards at the Altoona contest. Some of Jim’s chickens were selected as a special presentation to Gover nor Leader and Secretary Hen ning with Mrs Leader making the acceptance on behalf of the Governor ■ Clanton’s entry of 12 chick ens, with eviscerated weight of 41.75 lbs, sold -at auction last week in Coatesville, bringing $4 per pound on the bid of Mr Logan. L.. Sattazahn herd at Lebanon recently became member of the 100,000-lb club. Sunny Ayr Dot accumulated a record of 106,473 lbs of milk in 11 years, while Avon Request Milkmaid made 101,695 lbs in nine years. The total of these two records would supply a family with four quarts of milk per day for 66 years. Chester C. Putney, secretary of the National Ayrshire Breeders’ Association at Brandon Vt. made the announcement. Mr Putney emphasizes that records like these demonstrate the persistent longevity of Ayrshire cattle which is a requisite of efficient and profitable dairying.
