Page 9 April 25, 2012 The Lion’s Eye CREE t Meg's Reston ont Review: Shere-E-Punjab is an Indian restaurant; there is more than one location, I visited the one in Media. I love cooking, but I have not mastered the art of Indian cuisine, so it is a type of food that I enjoy going to a restaurant for. As a vegetarian, I also like to go to Indian restaurants because I generally find that there are a variety of appealing vegetarian selections. Shere-E-Punjab has a lunch buffet, which is ideal for anyone who is not familiar with Indian cuisine and would like to try a little bit of several dishes. I am not a big fan of buffets, and I prefer to go for dinner. I have been to Shere-E-Punjab several times, and I have yet to be disap- pointed. Shere-E-Punjab has a pleasant, themed atmosphere. There are several large paintings hanging on the walls (my per- sonal favorite is the painting depicting Brahman cattle plowing a field). Dark walls and ceiling, as well as background music add to the restaurant’s overall atmosphere. A good atmosphere is always a plus, but I would rather go to a hole in the wall with excellent food than a beautiful establishment with good food. To start with, I had the mulligatawny soup and my table split an appetizer, vegetable pakora. I always like to start with a soup or appetizer when I go to Shere-E-Punjab. For my entrée, I chose the malai kofta. The other entrees at my table were dum aloo (potatoes in sauce) and vegetable biryani (a rice dish), along with garlic naan (a bread). All of the items were vegetarian. The only dish that I did not enjoy was the dum aloo. However, I think that was more to do with personal preference Shere-E-Punjab By Megan Draper - Lion's Eye Staff Writer- msd5198@psu.edu than an issue with the dish. I do not really enjoy roasted pota- toes, which is the main ingredient in dum aloo. The potatoes are stuffed with a modest amount of cheese and served with ample sauce. The vegetable biryani is not my favorite dish, but it is very good. I think it is a good choice for a person who is not sure § whether or not the menu will be to their liking. : The mulligatawny soup has an interesting, and in my opinion, tasty blend of flavors. It has a pea soup-like consistency, and it has a mixture of vegetables and lentils as its base. As the menu states, it is “spice flavored with delicate herbs.” I love a variety of soups, and an unusual soup can be a great way to start a meal. Therefore, mulligatawny soup is an excellent choice for me, but I realize it is not for everyone. The appetizer, vegetable pakora; is a must for anyone visiting Shere-E-Punjab. Vegetable pakora are shredded veg- etables deep fried in a chick pea batter. They have a superb mix of herbal and fried flavor, a combination that is excellent and not easy to come across. My entrée, the malai kofta, is also one of my favorites. Malai kofta are “vegetable meatballs” served in a tangy (yet not sweet), mildly spicy sauce. Like the dum aloo, there is a large amount of sauce and rice or bread is an important aspect of completing the entrée. I would recommend Shere-E-Punjab to anyone who is interested in expanding their food horizons. If I were to grade the restaurant, I’d give it a B. However now I am very thankful to my her for forcing me read it as I was not able to put it down once I started. Hunger Games, the first book in the trilogy series written by Suzanne Collins is narrated by sixteen year old Katniss Ever- deens point of view. Katniss Everdeen is a resident of district By Navpreet Kaur - Lion's Eye Staff Writer- nwk5097@psu.edu district twelve. Back home Katniss’s old friend Gale who has begun to develop negative feelings for the capitol is rooting for her. Katniss’s feelings towards Gale are not clear at this point. The book has violent vibe to it as the readers ac- company Katniss to her trip into the arena. Suzanne Collins keeps the readers captivated with a lot of surprises and twists throughout the story. Yes Katniss Everdeen is linked to two 12 in Panem part of the Apalachia in the former united states. Everdeen a snarky tomboy character poaches with the govern- ment and trades in the black market to feed her family as she is the only bread earner for her twelve year old sister Prim and her mother. Her father passed in a tragic coal mining explosion different male characters in the story but the Hunger Games is not a teen drippy teen love triangle story. Although Katniss has feelings for Peeta and Gale that is not the main focus of the story. The focus of the story is justice, justice for her, her family and ultimately the people of Panem. Though Katniss is when she was eleven years old. SUZANNE COLLINS Photo Courtesy of google.com The Hunger Games is set up in a dystopian society where North America is divided into 12 districts, the twelfth district being the poorest and one being the richest. Katniss happens to belong to district 12, the poorest district. Every year the capitol forces each district give up two children from the ages of twelve to eighteen to participate in the hunger games. The twenty four tributes are put into in an arena where they fight to death. Winning the hunger games not only stay- ing alive but the tributes also secure some goodies for their district, mainly food. Katniss Everdeen who is taught how to hunt by her father volunteers for her elven year old sister Prim - a strong and independent sixteen year old she is very similar to every other teen. She makes mistakes, she feels defeated and she misinterprets signals. The ending to the book is totally appropriate but if you look happy endings this not the book for you to read. In conclusion it can be said that the Hunger Games is a book about fighting for your rights and fighting for what you deserve. While most of the readers will read the book like any other book but for others it will evoke several thoughts like “should a wealthy few control the destiny of the average middle class people?” All in all the Hunger games is a book worth reading. It definitely leaves one pondering at the end. as the girl tribute and Peeta Mellmark is the boy tribute from A Sticky “Situation” By Emerald Chotalal- Lion's Eye Staff Writer - Efc5034@psu.edu Mike Sorrentino or better known as “The Situation” was admitted into Cirque Lodge a Rehabilitation center, soon after the most recent season of the hit reality TV show ended.
