Those students who aren’t sure exactly how to go about this fair have no fear. Brandywine has offered you with a number of op- portunities to prepare. Resumania offered students a chance to sched- ule appointments to have their resumes proofread. On Wednesday, February 23rd, the Career Fair Prep workshop was held at common hour, which helped students to prepare to do their best at the actual fair. The Career Day Fair is going to be a great opportunity for students to meet potential employers and get a chance for future interviews. These opportunities can potentially lead to future intern- ships and jobs and the Career Day Prep helped prepare students to do their best at the fair. For those students who missed the career fair prep day have no fear, here are some of the important points covered. First and foremost, be prepared. This includes doing research on the companies in attendance. This gives students an idea of what com- panies that they want to speak with. It will only take a few minutes to do and makes a world of difference. Dress to impress. This means a suit or business attire for both men and woman. Students should make sure that their resume is done correctly and should bring mul- tiple copies to bring to employers. When students greet employers at the fair, the intro is very important. It is very important to make a good first impression be- cause there will be very limited time for students to promote them- selves to employers. Face to face encounters at the fair hold give students a chance to promote what employers cannot see on a piece of paper. Students’ goals for their intro should be to exert confidence, smile, provide a firm handshake, demonstrate serious interest and preparation, and ask questions about the company. Some common questions students can expect to be asked are whether they are inter- ested in a full or part time position, why you chose your major, and some goals that you have for yourself. Following up 1s another main issue in getting the most out of your experience at the Career Fair. After attending the fair, it would be helpful for students to review the information that they were given throughout the fair and decide which companies that they are or are not interested in. A prompt follow up e-mail to employers that a student spoke with is a good way to remind employers about their discussion. ; The Penn State Brandywine’s website offers plenty more helpful tips and information about the fair and how to succeed on the Advising and Career Service page. Good luck to those students at- tending!
