By Nancy Perone - Lion's Eye World & Local Editor - nip5014@psu.edu ing renewed) as he is for dating tattooed women and porn stars, Jesse James’ infidelity isn’t as surpris- ing. It is slightly more upsetting, however, because Bullock was quoted from a Barbara Walters Oscar special as saying “[she] finally found someone who agree that is exactly how these high profile wives should be acting. Are the acts of their husbands redeemable? Some say yes, especially when the word sex addiction is thrown around. Tiger Woods checked himself into a sex rehab called Gentle Path in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and was checked out a little less than a month later by his wife Elin. According to Adi Jaffe, a doctoral student at UCLA and contribu- tor to Psychology Today, says that sex addiction is like any other addiction. On the website, www.allaboutaddictions.com, Jaffe says that, “A sexual addict experienc- es the same type of uncontrollable compul- sions that others feel in different forms of addiction.” Cheating is something that happens in everyday relationships, but when it happens to a celebrity more shame and public scrutiny are involved. While it is unclear how many porn stars and female nightclub owners Tiger Woods had his affairs with (Us Weekly says 13), Jesse James stuck to a nice, round number of three (or so we think). There’s re- ally no rationalizing or forgiving what these “men” have done—but should we care? To catch you up to date, golf superstar Tiger Woods started mak- ing headlines last November when rumors were bouncing from tabloid to tabloid about the alleged affairs and Woods crashed his truck while still inside the gated community in Florida where he lives. It was suspected that Tiger had been fighting with his wife Elin, former part-time model, over the speculated affairs at the time of the crash. Not too long after the incident, a few actual mistresses were confirmed, but then came the dozens just riding on their coattails or negligees. The three women said to be “definites” are: Rachel Uchitel, a night club promoter; Jaimee Grubbs, reality televi- sion star; and Kalika Moquin, a Las Vegas night club marketing manager. Jesse James, not the outlaw, but the televi- sion host and West Coast Choppers CEO was outed shortly after his wife, actress Sandra Bullock, won an Oscar for her movie The Blind Side. Eventually, thrill seeking becomes more important than family, career, even personal health and safety.” Sound familiar? So, maybe Tiger Woods is off the hook, but I’m still skeptical of Jesse James. Recent Hollywood gossip magazines show pictures of Sandra Bullock not sporting her wedding band and Elin Woods taking vacations separate from her husband. Most of us, women especially, would Thimbles & Threads Menswear is Not Only For Men By Cait Hazinsky - Lion s Eye Staff Writer - ceh5420@psu.edu One trend that is currently striking the runway is menswear. The thing is that it is for women to wear, not men. This used to be a trend a couple decades ago and seems to be coming back around. A lot of designers are having a blast with mixing femininity with masculinity and straddling that line between going too far and being fashion- able. It seems to work by pairing a pair of men’s slacks with a small belt and loose top tucked in. A more common trend, which is even in Victo- ria’s Secret magazines, is a “boyfriend” style shirt tucked into (gives off a baggier look instead of a fitted button down shirt) paired with skinny jeans. This trend is more for fall fashion, but has been previewed on the runway for some time now. We even got a taste of menswear fashion back in 2008 with the Sex and the City movie. In my opinion, the costume designer for the movie over- did the menswear a bit; however, what is being seen by designers seems to be a lot more modern and wearable. An up and coming designer (who was featured in an edition of the newspaper earlier this semester) is making menswear a big part of her fall collection. When I spoke with Katie Ermilio, she explained to me what trend is hot right now and how she is incorporating it into her first col- lection. She talked about loving the open-ended possibilities with trendy outfits usually prepared for men. It opens up to a whole demographic and allows for more fashionable freedom. By adding menswear to the list of what is trendy, it is changing the image of the normal standard. Usually when we look at designer’s collection on the runway, we see long, flowy dresses or tight, form-fitting skirts, but now we are seeing baggy shirts mixed with some form- fitting pieces. The “boyfriend” style has become incredibly popular; it has even been the theme of some seasonal fashion in department stores and stores like American Eagle. Aside from mixing a baggy piece of clothing with something form-fitting, jackets have become hugely popular as well. Not only bomber jackets, but even jackets that look like the marching band uniforms. These drum-major type jackets have been paired with everything from skinny jeans, minis, or even being worn overtop of a mini-dress. So keep in mind this upcoming season: instead of wearing skinny jeans with a tight blouse, maybe pair it with a button-down that your boyfriend would wear or if you prefer the form-fitting look, add a jacket to make it more edgy!
