The trade makes Lee the sixth Cy Young winner to be traded following the following season. Lee was impressive in his first start with the Phillies, for he pitched all nine innings and recorded his first win with the team by defeat- ing the San Francisco Giants. Following the game, Lee had this to say about his first start, "The first few times - with a new team, you're going to try to prove your worth, and prove who you are and what you do." Lee pitched his first game at Citizen’s Bank Park, on August 6th, and ran onto the field to a standing ovation from the crowd. The left handed pitcher did not disappoint the fans and pitched seven strong innings against the Colorado Rockies, Siriking out 9 batters and cruising to his second win with the team. Many fans thought he would . ruin the image and reputation of, not only the Eagles, but also the city of Philadelphia. The acquisition was shock- ing to say the least and many fans, along with animal rights movements, protested to not have him on the team. Part of the deal was to have Michael Vick do numer- ous hours of activities in the community and share the horrific actions of dog fighting and how he is sorry for his actions. - There was more to the signing than just playing football for Michael Vick. He had to change his- lifestyle and share with oth- ers how deeply sorry he was for his actions. Michael Vick was eligible to play in the third preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. To some surprise, Eagles fans showed a lot of love and support for Michael Vick at Lincoln Financial Field and there were numerous number seven jerseys in the crowd. Michael Vick was inserted in the second play of the game to a standing ovation from the crowd. The Mike Vick “experiment” seemed to be a success after his preseason debut. Obviously, it will take time for Vick and the team to develop chemistry together on the offense, ; but with all the weapons that the team has, the opposing defensive coordinator will have a hard time shutting the Eagles down. The organization, players and fans were all disappointed and knew that changes needed to be made. General Manager, Paul Holmgren, started with the acquisitions of defenseman, Chris Pronger and goal- tender, Ray Emery. Now, heading into the 2009-2010 season, Flyers fans have much look forward to. Chris Pronger was traded from Anaheim, where he led the Ducks to a Stanley Cup victory in 2007, for winger . Joffrey Lupul , Luca Sbisa, and two first round draft picks. Pronger is a hardnosed defenseman that is ca- pable of shutting down talented opposing forwards such as Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. In 2000, Chris Pronger was awarded the Norris Trophy for being the NHL’s best defensive player. Some speculate that the Flyers gave up too much for the aged Pronger, but as an elite player in the NHL, Anaheim was not going give him away for nothing. The Flyers have also signed controversial goaltender, Ray Emery, during the offseason to a one year deal. Emery was the Ottawa Senators’ goaltender in 2005 and led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007. During the following season, Emery started showing up late for practice and having conflicts with teammates. the season, the Philadelphia Flyers will also look for Emery was released in the summer of 2008 and played major production from forwards Danny Briere and Photo Courtesy of faceoff. com again.
