This season has seen many interesting and fun moments, from a 100th win, to 1000 points scored in a career, to playoff berths. To start the season off, the fall sports teams . made it interest- ing. The Brandywine soccer team saw a new coach and a new way of playing soccer : on the field. The new coach was David Carvalho, who was an assistant coach with Eastern University. With Coach Carvalho came a new way of playing the game. His “team seemed to get to know his style of play, and he quickly became their friend as Eas well as coach. : The team was | CONGRATULATIONS! ei : | : ful as Carvalho 3 : 4 By wanted, but 4 they have ~ things that they will be able to ~ work on for next season. The ten- ‘nis team was = 2009 National Championship ions March 3-7 2009 becca “Becca” Bergwell. Bergwell says that the team worked hard this season and was going to be a great team in the near future. Some of the players that you might want to look for next season are Cydney Goldman and Sean Hickey, both are freshman this season and seem to be the : : front runners next season. The team seemed to be able to cooperate together and win many games, and hopefully that continues next season as well. Another new coach and : of on the Brandywine scene in the sports world was the volleyball coach, Len Lo- mas. The volleyball team was a team to be reckoned with winning the majority of their games during the season. They won most of their games in front of the home crowd. Coach Lo- mas was able to bring the team to a playoff berth in the fall but were not able to bring home a champi- onship. : : During the baseball season, the first of many momentous moments happened. The coach of the baseball ten ocwesron, © oe ad . Penn Stat 8, He 4 ] f a : ud Eo YT coached by Re- - . Eye Sports would team won his 100th game of his career. Coach Jeff Vickers was not very self absor- bent of his accomplishment. He credits the feat to the players and how they were the reason that he was able to win that many games. The team seemed to take that win and make the season memorable for all involved as they went 11-1 to finish the fall ‘season going into spring training. The men’s basketball season saw another new coach. Stuart Ross was a coach that seemed to be friendly to all that asked for information on his team. The team was not as successful in Ross’ first season as head coach of the team. The team made a valiant run in the final few games of the season. The season was not a disap- pointment; Ross now can take the experience from this season and build on it for the season coming up. The women’s basketball team had an incredible run. During their season, senior Deanna Gineitis scored the 1,000 point of her career; all tabulated during her four years at Penn State Brandywine. In the season, the team was able to capture many wins, and make a run at the playoffs in the end. The playoffs did not work out the way that the team wanted to, especially for their graduating seniors, but the team was congratulated by all that supported them. Ice hockey seemed to get everyone psyched for the winter season. After the basketball season was over, the ice hockey team seemed to engulf the cheers of all at Brandywine. The Brandywine ice hockey team was able to go into the playoffs in Rochester, New York, with a regular season record of 32-4, but the regular season seemed to be a high compared to the post-season. The ice hockey team was not able to win a single game in the playoffs, and the only game that the team lost by more than one goal was the first playoff game. The season seemed to be a success in the end. The spring season sees the 11-1 baseball team return. The baseball team : has been off to a slow start after a few rain delays to start their season. The first games were at home where the team was able to dominate the Penn State Hazleton team, 9-0 in game : 1, and a 2 hitter by Corey Hepfer, with a win of 3-0 in game 2. The rest of the season is still in full swing, and we are rooting for the team, as the rest of the campus is. To wrap up the sports season, as a whole, the seasons have seen ups and downs, but all the players seemed to learn something about themselves with every game and each season. The seasons may be coming to a close, but they will be back soon. The Lion's like to congratu- late all teams for a hard earned season, and hopes that the future seasons are as spectacular as the past one has been. Thanks to all that were involved in get- ting the Penn State Brandywine seasons into the paper and to all the players that made the articles for the paper interesting ] Penn State Brandywine and fun to write. : y 2008 Saccer
