Karrie Bowen, instructor of Corporate Communications, is the Women’s Histo- ry Month Committee Chairperson. The Committee consists of Penn State Bran- dywine faculty and staff who all think that a month long celebration honoring women is important. There will be plenty of oppor- tunities for students and faculty to take part in discussion or just simply learn about women throughout history this month. On campus, there will be guest speakers, brown bag lunches concerning interest- ing issues, displays, and open classroom lectures. : Aside from posters that will be up all over campus, students can find out more information by joining the Face- History Month.” ; In regard to the month’s events Professor Bowen says, “A lot of people aren’t aware that women have done ev- erything that men do because history is taught from the patriarchal viewpoint. It is the hope of everyone involved to both celebrate the contributions of women to communities, our families, our societies and our world, and give people informa- tion and knowledge of how women have worked and done many things to add to our world’s history.” Topics covered throughout the month will range from women in his- tory, math and science, in entertainment, in male dominated occupations, and women who have worked for social jus- tice. Should you want to take part in any of the events or simply just find out more information on Women’s History Month, please email Karrie Bowen at kab44@ book group “PSU Brandywine Women’s psu.edu. By Jasmine Hunter - Lion’s Eye Staff Writer jph267@psu.edu How has the economy affected students at Penn State . Brandywine? We polled several Brandywine students with the following questions: How has the economy affected your life so far? How has it affected school for you? With the economy being bad, has it made you want to drop or leave school for a short period of time? Here’s what some students had to say about it: 1.Tedros Asmelash : Year standing at Penn state: 3rd year (junior) Major: Civil Engineer The only way that the economy has affected my life is that I have no hours at work. Also that I glad because the gas prices has gone down and I do not have to pay a lot of money to fill up my car. There is not enough money to pay tuition and I had to take out loans: Also I can’t buy books, so I stay in the library and study with my friends and share their textbooks for the class that I have. As for school, not really, I believe in hope. So-hopefully the economy will get better. 2. Name: Tom Sullivan Year standing at Penn State: Freshman Major: Anthropology It hasn’t really affected my life really because my parents do everything for me. The only major thing is that my parents cut back on spending habits. I don’t work at all so I don’t have to worry about not having enough hours at work. Also I don’t have that many luxuries. ; It hasn’t really affected my school or anything because I rely on Fafsa and my parents to pay for school and my books and everything that I need. I have never thought about dropping out of school. 3. Name: Gwiyn Bohara Year standing at Penn State: Freshman Major: Pre-Vet Not that much. My parents take care of everything. It is not that be of a deal to me. [have scholarships that help me with the tuition of school, and I am also an honor student so that also pays for my school and books. I have never thought about dropping out or leaving school. 4. Name: Ian Nicholas Year standing at Penn State: freshman Major: Mechanical engineer My eating habits have changed because now I have to watch what I eat and how much it cost. Another thing is traveling by car and the gas prices. I think that gas prices are ok, they are flexible. I am paying for school by FAFSA and scholarships and loans that I had to take out. I don’t really have to struggle this semester because I don’t work therefore I can focus on school more. I don’t think that I have thought about dropping out or leaving the school. I think that it crazy to even want to drop out and waste your money. 5. Name: Dickson Obi-Tabot Year standing at Penn State: Sophomore Major: DUS It hasn’t really affected me directly, but the only thing is about gas prices. I don’t really have to pay for anything. I think it sucks though because of gas, I don’t have enough money to spend on myself. Nothing has really affected school for me. Nothing really affects me personally to the best of my knowledge. The way that I pay for school is by my father. He paid for all of the tuition. I think about leaving school because of stress and classes and everything thing else. 6. Name: Heshan Wilson Year standing at Penn State: Junior Major: Psychology It made it harder to even buy anything in this world and that I have to work harder to be able to buy things for me that I need or want in life. It has made it harder for me to buy books. I almost could not get books due to not having enough money. Also since I catch the bus, I have to have enough money to get a transpass to that I can get to and from school. For my first semester I had to take out loans and pay out of my own pocket so that I can get my tuition paid for. Now for my second semester I have received some grants since my GPA has increase. Last semester I did think about dropping out of school because I was deciding whether or not I should take a full time job, take out a loan, or leaving school. 7. Name: Kevin Reighn Year standing at Penn State: Freshman Major: Education It hasn’t really had an effect if anything. I am spend- ing more money and at the place where I work, people are still buying a lot of things. It has made it the topics we discussed in class more about the economy. Also my parents have found it harder to keep paying for school. But no, the economy has not really affected me staying or going.
