Page 3 The Lion’s Eye December 10, 2008 Eve on Campus NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI It’s that time of year again! Take a look around at your fellow Penn Staters and nominate alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers or have made significant contributions to society. Penn State Brandywine will select those alumni that best qualify to be recognized for their achievements at next spring’s Alumni Recognition event, to be held May 2, 2009. ~ (Please save the date! More details will be coming shortly.) This annual event honors outstanding alumni, and we ask your help in submitting names for consider- - ation. The individual must have been a regular full-time student on the Brandywine campus for at least two years Special to the Lion's Eye current staff members are not eligible. Our theme for this event will celebrate the international flavor of our campus so special consider- ation will be given to those alumni who are good global citizens. From the Oxfam Web site (http://www.oxfam. org/), the definition of a good global citizen is someone who: * is aware of the wider world and has a sense of his or her role as a world citizen; * respects and values diversity; * has an understanding of how the world works eco- nomically, politically, socially, culturally, technologically and environmentally; range of levels from local to global; * is willing to act to make the world a more sustainable place; takes responsibility for his or her actions. It is so important for our current students to hear about the accomplishments of former Penn State Brandywine students, many of whom had to overcome obstacles to achieve their success. Please take a moment to complete the nomination form. Because of the time and effort involved in this project, we request nomina- tions be received by December 31, 2008. Thank you for your assistance, and we hope you will attend the event on May 2 to celebrate our campus and recognize our alumni. but does not need to be a graduate of Penn State Bran- dywine. With great food and student entertainment, the student body came out to participate in the event. Many students, faculty, and staff volunteered their time to take pictures, serve food, and perform. Multi Cultural Day al- lowed the campus to experience various cultures that are representative throughout the student body. The food was donated by faculty, staff, and parents as well. There was a wide selection of international foods such as Asian, Indian, and Italian dishes. Students were encouraged to fill their plates many times in order to sample the wide array of foods. A desert table was also set up towards the back of the gym that had many different cakes, pies, cookies, and candies. Following the food, the performances commenced. Sophomore Albert Parks was the masters of ceremonies and kept the crowd laughing as he introduced the talent for the day. : : There was storytelling accompanied by musical instruments. The spoken word and the two monologues followed and lastly there was group of beautiful Spanish dancers that ended the celebration. At the end of the event, all who attended were left with full stomachs and a greater appreciation for other cultures throughout the world. Comedian Schultz on Campus JALLING ALL ATHLETES!!! We are very interested in expanding our athletic program; we want to provide our students with new venues to demonstrate their skills. We did some informal surveys and we would like to offer the following opportunities: 1. We are putting together a Women’s Soccer Club team to play in a local league this spring. We need 12-15 players who are familiar with the game and willing to commit to matches and limited practices. Our goal would be to transition this team to a varsity sport in Fall 2009 or 2010. 2. We have the opportunity to develop a Coed Cross Country {team for next fall. We would like to get any interested students together this spring to begin working out. Cross Country is an excellent way to stay in shape and provides athletes with an opportunity to compete at the intercollegiate level. 3. We are considering adding Coed Golf as a varsity sport next fall. players should be familiar with the game, own clubs, and have a respectable handicap. We want to get a team together this spring for practices.
