? . bk 4 ™ L! » (5 EMP N ¥ ¥ % "The Lion’s Eye APRIL 2008 Hometown He By Erin Kaskela Associate Editor eck137@psu.edu Name: Michael Edward Mancuso Age: 22 Hometown: Yeadon, PA. Branch: United States Marine Corps Rank: Corporal (Cpl.) Boot Camp: Parris Island, NC This is a very special hometown hero, because this information comes straight from Iraq. Mike is on his second tour in Iraq and will be there until September. He sent this information to The Lion’s Eye via the internet and we are honored to be able to give him the recognition he deserves. Mancuso tried to put as much information as possible, but he didn’t get to finish because he does not have much time to use the computer in between fighting for our country and trying to survive. “Well here’s some knowledge of what I do, what I can do, and what I am doing out here in Iraq. My job is a Scout Observer, and I also specialize in indirect fire support. I am a member of the infantry and request artillery, naval gunfire, and mortars. I also mark targets for air support, such as fighter jets and helicopters, wit lasers, smoke, infrared strobes, or a high explosive artillery round called a dirty mark. It’s a very demanding and responsible key position en the battlefield. Not only am I trained as a Scout Observer, I also excel in advanced infantry tactics, Counter IED tactics, and Marine Corps Martial arts all the way to a green belt.” After his tour ends, Mancuso wants to return to college, get a degree, and became a leader in the Marines. He loves his job and has no regrets. Special to The Lion's Eye Penn State Brandywine participated in a Locks of Love event on ampus from noon to 2 p.m. on April 7. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organi- ation that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffer- ng from long-term medical hair loss, creates hairpieces using donations of 10 inches or more of hair.
