Sagittarius (November 23-December 21)- An unexpected but very welcome financial windfall could find its way into your wallet the first week of February, when Venus in Capricorn, your solar 2nd house of personal resources aligns with Jupiter and Uranus. You can convince people to do anything you want them to do for you but don’t push others too far. It might come back to get you later in the year. By Erin Kaskela Lion's Eye Associate Editor eck137@psu.edu During the mid-19th century, Valentines Day became commercialized and the act of exchanging cards and chocolates became a symbol of this day. The United States Greeting Card Association reports that ap- proximately one billion greeting cards are exchanged on this day after year. There are other ideal gifts given on Valentines Day, which include jewelry, flowers, and a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. The most popular thing to give is roses, but with so many different selections, it can be difficult to choose the right color and arrangement. Flowers are normally chosen on price, quality, and the perfect color, but most people don’t know what the different colors of roses mean. Roses with no thorns signify love at first sight. A single red rose simply displays ize an engagement. A dozen roses shows gratitude, twenty-five gives congratulations, and fifty shows unconditional love. A coral rose symbolizes desire, lavender also means love at first sight, orange shows fasci- nation, and yellow indicates friendship. Red and pink roses are the most common color given for Valentines Day, but the varieties of these colors all mean different things. The classic pink rose carries the message of hap- piness and gentleness, deep pink says thank you, and light pink conveys admiration, joy, and grace. Red roses symbolize sincere love, respect, courage, and passion while red and white together signifies unity. Dark red re- veals unconscious beauty and a red rosebud is a symbol of purity and loveliness. These different colors and variations are seen often, but never for what they truly mean. So this Valentines Day, when deciding what to get your loved one, put true thought in what you want to say to your special some- one because a rose is seen for the unspoken love. EYE OMNCELEERITIES By Andrea Gafford Lion's Eye Staff Writer amg5243@psu.edu Death of a Young Actor On January 22, 2008, twenty-eight year old actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York City apartment. His housekeeper found the actor unconscious on the floor. Surrounding him were several bottles of anti- depressants, as well as other illegal narcotics. When found by the housekeeper, she imme- diately called actress Mary-Kate Olsen, who was in California. Mary-Kate then called her security that was in New York. By the time they rushed to the body, Ledger was already dead. Speculations regarding his death are still in the air in regards to why they didn’t dial 911 instead of calling security and if it was an accidental overdose or a possible suicide.
