October 2, 2006 It is safe to say Concert Review: [at the First Gym Class Heroes | mar Church iladelphia, PA, could greatly invest in an air conditioning system, at least after the performance given there on Monday, September 18. The Gym Class Heroes (GCH), a group of musicians with a rapping lead singer, headlined a tour with the likes of Cobra Starship, Hanger 18 and Patent Pending. The show started out with the latter of the bunch. Patent Pending, a lively rock group, got the crowd moshing within the first two minutes, an amazing task for an opening band. They entertained the group with their pirate antics and great song showcase. Damages were not withheld for the group; the lead singer took a jump and was not caught properly, and quickly walked off the stage with a dazed look in his eyes. But, the crowd was grateful for his commitment. Hangar 18, a duel of rappers, came up next. They had the audience eating out of the palm of their hands. The fast rhymes were completed with even faster beats. Cobra Starship, probably best known for their song, 'Bring it On,' for the infamous film, 'Snakes on a Plane,’ were a hit in the Chestnut Street church basement. They performed songs off their new CD, which comes out in October, and even their token hit. The Lion's Eye Travis, the lead vocalist for Gym Class, even came out for his accompany- ing rap sec- tions. It was incredible. Nothing came nearly as close to what GCH would bring, though. Gym Class stole the show and the audience's attention. No one would leave this show un-phased by the amount of energy these guys brought. They performed songs from their older CD including: Papercuts, Cupid's Chokehold and Taxi Driver. But their new CD was not to be outdone, they played numerous hits from it including Shoot Down the Stars, the Queen and I, and New Friend Request. Travis paused between songs to entertain the crowd, he even gave a brief sermon after the second song, and it was fitting since the concert was in a church. The group stuck around until long after the show. Making sure every fan got his/her autograph and pic- ture. They even discussed demo CDs with aspiring artists! These guys are more than just 'Gym Class' heroes to their fans. -ASHLEY SALADA Page 5 Comedy Review: Robbie Printz After a hectic first two weeks straightening out class schedules, draining hundreds of ollars on books, and getting better acquainted |with new teachers at enn State Delaware | County, students needed |something to smile {about. Their answer... |comedian, Robbie Photo By: Brittany Neimeth [Printz. Thursday September 21, Printz entertained a packed room of students dur- _ing common hour in the Lion's Den. His quick wit, acute observations on life, and his constant audience participation had students singing his praises well after the performance. "Comedy gold," gushed Matt Kelly, a Liberal Arts major here at Penn State Delco. "A blend of Kevin Smith's wit and Brian Regan's delivery!" Printz has come a long way since first getting his start at Nick's Comedy Stop in Boston back in 1988. He has appeared on both MTV and Comedy Central. He also won the Boston Comedy Festival in 2002 and The Improper Bostonian named him Boston's Best Comedy Act in 2003. He constantly has his act out on the road and has performed all across the country. Printz can next be seen traveling to Carrol College in Wisconsin and Concordia College in Minnesota. He has a sharp delivery and is an intriguing story- teller. Printz makes the audience feel like they know the people he talks about on stage. He has a natural talent for relating to his audience by including stories about his own life with dramatic embellishments for punch lines. The stories about his interactions with his wife of 10 years obtained the loudest laughs from Penn State Delco students. : "It's funny because people think it's my life," Printz chuckled, explaining how sometimes people take his stories a little too seriously. Printz is a fantastic comedian and an extremely down-to-earth, friendly guy to boot. He stayed around a little bit after the show to talk to some stu- dents before catching a plane back to Boston. If you get the opportunity to see Printz on stage, take it, and I promise you will have the time of your life. How about a burger and milkshake after exams? Look no further then up the street from cam- pus. It is the legendary Tom Jones. The place is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days-a-week. Tom Jones is always open no matter what happens. They are even open during blizzards! One particular favorite there is their milk shakes. These things are absolutely delicious. A person just has to try it once, and they will always love them. Its main attraction is the Blue Ribbon Special, though. Someone can get the special for just $2.99. It offers two pancakes, two eggs, two sausages, two bacons, toast, shot of juice, and unlimited coffee. For someone who is a coffee fiend like me, this is partic- ularly a favorite meal. Though Tom Jones does have an Achilles’ heel. In all honesty, the pizza is just down right terrible. First thought after taking a bite is, "I am never ordering this again." Overall, Tom Jones is one of a kind. It offers the customer cheap, good meals. Not to mention the convenience that it is always open. For good times and cheap food, just head over to Tom Jones. - MATT GEORGE
