February:27,2006 Eve On Entertainment [music Review: Sons and Daughters Move over Franz Ferdinand, you aren't the only Scottish band out there to catch our ears. "The Repulsion Box" by Sons and Daughters combines rock and rugged folk with a side of a jig that guarantees a good time. This is the second album by Sons and Daughters. The quartet includes Adele Bethel on vocals, Scott Paterson on vocals and guitar, David Gow on drums and percussion, and Ailidh Lennon on bass, mandolin, and piano. Bethel was touring in her own band before she decided to start Sons and Daughters with Lennon, Gow and, later, Paterson. After their first gig in Glasgow, a record producer from New York who liked what he saw helped them record a demo, which set the stage for "Love the Cup." The male/female vocals on this album make it stand The Lion's Eye: Save | out, as they harmonize with regular pitches that progress RB to outbursts of shrieks por- traying lost loves. Their accents contribute to the qual- ity and individuality of their sound, as they are clearly no imitation of another group. Track 7, "Monsters," and Track 9, "Royally Used," are jigs that are sure to get you in a stepping mood. Track 10, "Gone," is my favorite - Paterson's rasps with his electric guitar throughout the song made his talent stand out, backed by Adele's sultry vocals. Try out Sons and Daughters' "The Repulsion Box" if you're loolung for some new songs to dance or rock out to. -Michelle Roche Random Review Midas: Autobody Shop Warm weather has appeared early, which means rou- tine maintenance for my car. I took my car to Midas for a casual oil change, wheel alignment, and a standard inspec- tion. I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer with broken oxygen sensors, which means I have to buy gas more often than I should. My car also ails from a broken heater and a lack of air conditioning. Also, the rubber that holds the wind- shield in its proper place is slowly breaking away from the seal. These prior problems made me wary and uneasy of taking the car in, especially for an inspection. Midas, a company that I often use, has treated me well in the past although they can be expensive on high-end maintenance. Routine checks and fixes have prices that are average if not a little under. The Midas station I visited is located at 740 Baltimore Pike in Springfield, PA. Service 4/4 - From the morning call to the end pick-up the Midas employees worked with me to fit with my schedule and get me on my way faster. All I simply had to do ‘was drive to the station; hand over my papers and key and eventually my credit card. A friendly greeting and a consistent smile go a long way. Quality 4/4 - My engine runs smoothly, I can no longer take an exit . from the far left lane \ without touching the i wheel, and 1 no longer / have to place a- shiny . metal object near my OM inspection sticker to try and fool the patrolling - a police. Handling of Situations 4/4 - We've all had the expe- rience while waiting for your car, the phone rings and you seem to stare at it hoping that all he'll say 1s your car is ready and it cost less than expected. Instead it's usually the mechanic telling you of everything wrong with your car making you to immediately go into defense mode, react- ing as if you had any control to anything that happened to your car. Their call was rather pleasant and well handled. I even got good news from, that I would receive a tire rota- tion free of charge. That's right; no cash now or ever. Knowledge - I'm not giving a rating for this category because they could have lied to me and I wouldn't be able to argue the case. - Amar Eshwar Ganti TV Review: 24 Bang. That was the sound that began a new day i in the life of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), the hero of the hit Fox series "24." After former President David Palmer and one of Bauer's ex-colleagues, Michele Dessler, were murdered by terror- ists in the first 10 minutes, Bauer took it upon himself to come out of hiding (he faked his own death at the end of last season) and find the people responsible for not only killing two of his friends, but also framing Bauer for the murders. A trail of clues left behind by the murdered President established Bauer's innocence and led him to a small air- port where more terrorists attempted to blackmail the cur- rent President, Charles Logan, into tearing up an anti-ter- rorism treaty with Russia. However, the hostage situation at the airport was only a cover for the theft of nerve gas that was stored there. Bauer eventually hooked up with two of the terrorists and managed to stop them from releasing the nerve gas at a mall in Los Angeles. From the first few minutes up to this point, "24" has con- tinued to amaze me not only with its constant variety of plot twists and storylines but its portrayal of violence as a necessary means both from the good guys' and bad guys' points of view. My heart rate accelerates ten minutes before the show starts and does not settle | until ten minutes after the | final ticks. But there is still much more to come on "24." Jack's daughter Kim is | (Elisha Cuthbert) will end oto: Google.com a one year hiatus and return to CTU in the next few hours. And rumor has it William Devane will reprise his role of Secretary of Defense James Heller and Audrey's father. It would be an interesting twist, considering that Audrey did forgive Jack for all the torture he put her through last season and the fact that she thought he was dead for over a year. As for Chloe and Edgar, they're back and they say they're going to share a cup of tea after their long day's work and tell each other their secrets. The question is who will make the first move? The show has gotten better and better each year and it is finally getting the respect it deserves as far as ratings go. As a fan I must say I was rather stunned by the open- ing scene of the premiere and the events that followed, but it is great television and I just love surprises. The commercials didn’t lie when they said this sea- son of "24" will go further than ever before. Stay tuned because Jack's day is just getting started. "24"airs on Mondays at 9/8¢c on FOX. - John Miller 21! Page Bi (of
