PSU Delco has the answer By JULIA HAGAN Lion’s Eye staff writer JAH1003@psu.edu Hockey fans across the country are mourning the possible loss of the 2004-2005 NHL hockey season; the league declared a lockout in early September. The launch of fall foot- ball has diverted attention from the harsh reality of no upcoming Flyers games, but spectators will soon notice the lack of checking penalties, hat tricks, and one-timers in their lives. Fortunately, the Penn State. Delaware County Ice Hockey Club offers another option for on-the-ice action. The club's season began Oct. 3 with a 2-0 victory over Shippensburg University. Highlights included goals by John Meehan and George Bannan, and impressive performances from fresh- man Dan Baer and goalie Jeff Wild, The Lion's Eye The thrill of victory The game is on October 12, 2004 who was named star of the game. | L The club encourages the entire campus community to attend games, most of which are held on weekend nights. The home rink has been moved this season, from IceWorks in Aston to Ice Line in West Chester. "Ice Line is a premier skating facility and we'll have more prime time games scheduled," co-captain Thomas Fischer said. "It's not far from campus either. If people want excitement, they should come to an ice hockey game." We all want to play hockey. It says a lot for stu- dents at a commuter campus to have the dedication to come out and prac- tice like our team does. It's expen- sive, too. Its season, which began with practices in mid-August, runs through February with numerous away games and road trips against teams including the University of Pittsburgh and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Soccer team gets back on track with a pair of victories By JULIA HAGAN Lion’s Eye staff writer JAH1003@psu.edu After a frustrating three-game losing streak, the Penn State Delco soccer team rebounded with back-to-back wins. Sept. 30, the Lions beat Williamson, 2-1, at home. Oct. 4, PSU gained another victory at DCCC, 1-0. “We started out shaky with a lack of dedicated players early in the season,” assistant coach Justin Spencer said. “Things are coming together now though and we've qualified for the EPCC playoffs." "The best way I can describe this season is that it's been half and half,” said team member Shameer Douglas. “ Our team has potential, but made some errors. We try very hard but some- times we make mistakes we shouldn't make. Our coach stresses the basics." The next home game is against Manor College Oct. 21.
