Hate (Shawn Manderson ) Question: Why is it that some girls play hard-to-get? — Easily lost in the game Doc Love: Think about it this way, my friend: some girls play because all they want to do is have fun. The challenge of the chase excites and thrills but when Love is on the line, it is never their blood that spills. Mr. Hate: My friend, get used to this because this is what women do. They want you pursue them when it benefits them, but if we pursue them any other time, oh now its “sexual harassment.” Question: I never see my best friend anymore because he's always with his girl- friend, how can I bring him back to his senses? — Poring one for the homeboy Doc Love: Well, you can't. Have you ever heard the expression: “Smitten by love?” Do you have any idea what the word ‘smitten’ means? No, it is not a com- bination of ‘Smooch’ and ‘Bitten’ rather it is summed up in a most frighteningly beautiful word: ‘Besotted.’ Mr. Hate: Hey pal I suggest you put a fork this turkey and consider it done because your friend is in an abyss. It's sort of like Alice in Wonderland when she was tumbling down the rabbit whole. No chance pal, the chances of you bringing him to his senses is about the same if you tried to throw a ten ton banana. Question: I'm going to meet my boyfriend's family for the first time this summer, they're from South Philadelphia. -Scared in Radnor Hate by emailing AAC136@psu.edu. Doc Love: Alright, first of all, if you two are in love with each other, then what is the problem here? W hat is this some- thing like from Romeo and Juliet? Listen, go over there, kiss the mom and pops on the cheek, eat some macaroni and forget about it! Capisce? Mr. Hate: I take it that Doc. Love has some issues with meeting parents, perhaps a glimpse into his inner psyche. This sounds like someone is a bit insecure. Look here's my take on this, if you are a good girl and have nothing to hide then you shouldn't be nervous. But if you are one of the girls who happened to be fea- tured in the Girls Gone Wild video then you have something to worry about. That point is pretty |. much the only saving grace for his new movie, “A Man Apart.” The basic plot line of the movie is that Diesel’s character, Sean Vetter, goes on a man hun to find the person who killed his wife. The story starts out with Vetter and his buddy, Demetrius (played by Larenz Tate) hunting down some South American drug lord that they have been hunting for seven years. The two are a no-holds bar pair of “bad-ass” DEA agents who used to be on the other side of the drug busts. The plot is contrived and base at od its best points. The movie commits the usual crime of stereotyping its black characters as drug dealing, south central living, lowlifes. Somehow, even though Vetter and Demetrius work the same job, and have been on the force for the same amount of time, Vetter is able to afford the beach-side apartment that his wife was shot in, while Demetrius is still living in a broken down house that, as Vetter points out, is badly in need of a paint job. All in all the movie provides the female audience with plenty of eye candy but is not anywhere near as. Although Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie (keyboardist Christine McVie isn't returning) are getting older, their music is still as alive Say You Will probably won't be your typical chart-topper. It's more of an exper- imental album, much like the 1979 album Tusk, which succeeded the infamous Rumours (one of the best-selling albums of all time). There are a variety of songs, and although different, there's still that same Ré&B/classic rock sound from the height of the band's career in the '70s. Nicks’ and Buckingham's voices still blend as beautifully as they did thirty years ago. The new material is original, and the instrumentation has an enchanting sound. Among the more conventional songs are the title tracks, "What's the World Coming To," and “Bleed to Love Her." These songs, however, don't showcase the band's talent as much as it's less mainstream music. "[llume” and "Destiny Rules" are a mere sampling of Nicks' enthralling, poetic lyrics. "Smile At You" displays her haunting voice. Many of Buckingham's songs show off his guitar-playing skills, especially in "Come," which has a powerful solo.
