Jyoti: I'm going to be working at a company named Vanguard. I had an internship with them a few semesters ago so that gave me the opportunity to work with them now. LE: That's really great. Did you get any credits for taking the internship that counted towards your major? Jyoti: No. I already had taken a cred- it-based internship, so that one was just for the experience. LE: Speaking of experience what types of experience have you gained from the IST program here? Jyoti: Lots. I actually started out as an accounting major, so when I changed to IST it was a big change. I've learned a lot more about computers in general, the hardware, software and most important- ly about teamwork. LE: What made you change from accounting to IST? That seems like a pretty big change. Jyoti: I decided to change majors to IST because I would have had to change campuses and go to Harrisburg and I New leaders for ‘today’s classrooms’ By AMANDA TROMBETTI AUT114@psu.edu Lion's Eye staff writer This spring there are many anxious seniors awaiting graduation. There will be graduates from many different majors, including business, English, HDFS, com- munications arts and sciences, IST, let- ters arts and sciences, and urban educa- tion. One of those graduating seniors is Andrew Lowry, graduating this spring from the urban education program. Throughout his years at Penn State Delco, Lowry has participated in many ‘campus activities. The campus allowed me to stay home and save money, staying home let me focus more on getting my schoolwork done as opposed to being up at University Park where I would have had a lot more dis- tractions like hanging out with my friends instead of studying. LE: Are you happy that you decided to stay here at Delco instead of moving Some of those activities included the Lion Ambassadors Club and SGA. Lowry was president of the SGA in the 2001-2002 school years. Along with being involved with the clubs on campus, he created a club of his own, called the Urban Education Club. “The purpose of the club is to deal with educational issues in today's class- rooms," Lowry said. Lowry has also been involved with the FITCAP program, and other comities on campus. Lowry, who's proud of his GPA of well over 3.0, has accomplished many achievements here at Penn State up to University Park? Jyoti: Yes. I knew that I wouldn't be able to graduate in four years if I had changed up to UP. I also figured that we were kind of a guinea pig major and that UP had the same scenario so why spend the extra money for playing guinea pig up at UP when I could pay a lot less here. LE: Now, you say that you guys were "guinea pigs" in the major, which Delco. He has won many a wards including the Outstanding Student Service Award (2002) and his most recent accomplish- ment, being inducted for Outstanding . Academic and Community Service. This was given to him by the Penn State Constintincuent Society. There have been many accomplish- ments fulfilled throughout his college “career. He will be proudly receiving his diploma this month and going forth to pursue a career in urban education. "I believe that Penn State has given me an outstanding undergraduate experi- ence," Lowry said. ; was true because yours is pretty much the first class to graduate from the pro- gram, since you were the test class you had the experience of watching the major grow into the popular one that it is now. What is the one thing that you could think of to have the school change in the classes?
