March 15, 2002 The Lion’s Eye Page 3 PSU missing student case grows cold By MEREDITH BECKER Staff writer Correction from last issue: stat box should have read 3 not 51" After almost 130 days, the PSU missing student case 1s getting cold. Cindy Song disappeared in the early morning of Nov. 1, 2001 and no trace of her where-. abouts have been uncovered since that night. Song is 21, (DOB:2/25/80) she’s 5°17, weighing around 1151Ibs. She has long black straight hair, and brown eyes. Both her ears and belly button are pierced. Local investigators are now trying to get outside involvement in the forensic evidence that can still be found inSong’s room. The reason her room has not been searched for forensic evidence is it has yet to be labeled a crime scene, in other words no one thought that any- thing happened to Song while she was in her room the night of her disappearance. The Ferguson Township Police Department is employing the help of the Pennsylvania State Police criminal Investigative Assessment Unit to help with anything they may have missed or looked past in their investigation. As Ferguson Policeman Det. Brian Sprinkle said, “It is a way to get a fresh perspective on the case. We are three months into the case, so it is time for us to step back and have someone else look at it." Police say there is still no apparent evidence of foul play of any nature, and that is one of the reasons the FBI is not thoroughly involved in the case. Sprinkle said two criteria must be met for the FBI to become involved in a case. 1. There must be evidence of foul play 2. There must be sufficient evidence that the case crossed state lines. In this case neither can be proven true. In an effort to get anymore information Sprinkle and FBI agent Stephan Collins are going door-to-door on the street where Song resided in State College to ques- tion neighbors. If you know anything about Cindy Song’s disappearance please call, Ferguson Township Police at (814) 237-1172 or 1-800-479-0050. Sex, Milk and Cookies; who could ask for more By GERRY DUNGAN Staff writer “How many of you are here for the cookies?” Melissa Cox, a counselor on campus, asked. Only one or two people raised their hands. “How many of you are here for the Milk?” only the few with cookies already in their mouths raised their hands. “How many of you are here for the Sex?” Thirty people's hands eagerly suspended in mid-air. “Sex, Milk and Cookies” is the last in the work- shops on relationships. Thirty plus students attended, 12 girls and 18 guys. They were there for the most impor- tant thing a growing young adult needs: food. And, of course, the sex. To the disappointment of a few of the guys, it was not an actual talk about the subject of sex, but rather an interaction among peers about the opposite sex. In fact, the only point on sexual intercourse was that as growing By JONATHAN LEONHARD Staff writer I'd like to apologize for my lack of column last issue, but I was busy fixing a crashed Microsoft serv- ¢r....imagine - that. Anyway, I thought an interesting topic for this issue would be pur- chasing items online. After all, I do most of my pur- chasing online and it saves me money. College students seem to want to save money also, so it's a match made in heaven. In this article, I'll briefly go over the why, where, and how of online purchasing. Why? Why would someone want to buy online instead of the traditional brick and mortar’ store? There are many reasons, but the biggest is price. Since the companies with stores have to pay rent, employees, and keep stock at the store, it costs more to sell you the product since they must pass the costs on to the consumer. With an online store, the company pays for a website (VERY cheap) and a warehouse to hold the product. That's it! So it costs less to do business with you. Plus, as an added benefit, you get to keep the sav- ings as rewards for shopping at their online store instead of their 'brick 'n mortar. So, shopping online saves money. Where? Where do I go to buy things online? Most anywhere. You can start at www.google.com to search for your product. If you're looking for an MP3 player, just type in "buy mp3 player" and many links will come up for you to click on. Make sure you shop around though; the first link isn't always the cheapest. If you're looking into used or refurbished products, check out www.ubid.com or www.ebay.com for deals. Ebay tends to have EVERYTHING If you young adults it is important to practice safe sex, as it cleverly demonstrates on the pamphlet the counselors handed out. Instead, after everyone had eaten their fill of milk and cookies, and the other variety of foods like" chocolate milk and chocolate chip cookies, the coun- selors had those present fill out note-cards with one question of curiosity for the opposite sex. Some were quite comical. Q. Why don't men show their emotions? Men. Cause we're men. Ladies. You know it's cool to be a sensitive guy. Q. Why aren't women as enthused about sex as men are? L. Timing is everything, don't come waking me 4 in the morning. M. Because we're men. Q. Why are guys so fascinated with two girls going at it? Computer shopping online want that matching earring that you lost 10 years ago and happen to know the name, chances are, Ebay has it. Finally, if you know the manufacturer, 9 times out of 10 you can just type their name in the web address and a web page will come up with a link to shopping. Check out www.llbean.com for an example. How? How do I buy online? With a credit card. Many people are afraid of using their credit card online. They are afraid someone is watching, or some- one will hack into the company's database and steal their credit card number. The chances that this will occur are about the same as the chance that you'll loose your credit card and someone will use it illegally. So ‘how can you protect yourself from CC thieves? : First, make sure there is a lock icon in the bot- tom of your browser (see the illustration below) when you give any sensitive information. That lock tells you that the encryption is activated and that even if some- one was looking, it would take more than 100 years to crack the code. - Even now, some credit cards have an extra 3 digits on the back where you sign your name. Some online stores ask for this as an extra precaution. So, as you can see, shopping online has many positive aspects including lower price, more selection, and saving time. It's safe and secure, and lets not forget the best part: shopping in your slippers! M. Because it's beauty at it's purest. | L. Well, how about if the only way we are satisfied is if there are two guys going at it. Q. What is the most important feature? M. "What are you ladies looking for, a specific body part or the whole thing?" L. Looks first then Personality. Q. Why are men so authoritive? L. It should be 50/50 all the way. M. Who wants to be told what to do? Q. Why do guys cheat on girls? ( There was an uproar here.) L. Iam so sick and tired of hearing about how guys “can be such jerks. M. Women do it to! But besides the good-humored and raunchy comments made, it was a great learning experience about the opposite sex. Even if it's only through talking. wl There are many benefits for Stadonts here at Penn State Delco. One benefit i is the opportuni- . ty to travel overseas and earn credits.
