Page 8 The Lion’s Eye Fall Sports Tiz Griffith: Penn State Delco’s very own firecracker ’ By CHRISTINE CONRON Staff Writer You've seen her around campus. You've heard her around campus. But there are “a lot of things about PSU Delco’s athletic director, Doris "Tiz" Griffith that most stu- dents don't know. But first, let's talk about what most folks know about Griffith. cracker in sneakers and sweatpants is Penn State's biggest booster. Make no bones about it, Griffith loves Penn State. She loves the Delaware County Campus. And she loves sports. Put her three loves together and you can get her talking a blue streak. : Griffith, Penn State Delco's athletic director since 1988, got a promotion over - the summer. Now along with her director duties, she's also a senior instructor in kinesi- ology. September 14, 2001 | The tiny, fire- - A member of the campus faculty since 1981, Griffith has served on many boards including the faculty executive committee, ‘the student life committee, and the Friends of the Library. She has also held positions as the secretary of the Faculty Senate, | the faculty advisor to the Student Athletic Association, and the academic advisor to the College of Business. : : In April 2000, Griffith received the Madlyn L. Hanes F aculty Prize, which was established in 1998 as a tribute to the former director of academic affairs. As the recipi- ent, Griffith was cited for her "exceptional achievement in teaching, research, scholar- ship", and many service contributions to the campus. Griffith was named the CCAC Tennis Coach of the Year in 1990, and is -a mem- ber of the Temple University Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. She received her B.S. in health and physical education from Temple University, and her M.S. in health and physical education from West Chester University. While at Temple University, Griffith, was part of the All-College Field Hockey. Team from 1958-1962. She also played for the United States Field Hockey Team in 1961-1962. Griffith has three children and seven grandchildren. She'd love to see all Delco students out at one of the many sporting events this semes- ter. So, come out and cheer on the Nittany Lions!
