At least, at first glance. Granted, they're not the biggest team in the league, but these ladies have a great deal of heart and determination. One might also consider they are probably the smartest team in the Penn State Conference. As a matter of fact, the average GPA of the team happens to be above 3.0. This Lions team is also one of the toughest, most aggressive ladies basketball. teams I have ever seen play. “Our record doesn’t quite reflect the ANTEIA CONSORTO Mandy Heilman dribbles down the court with opponents chasing her the whole way. Delco’s Lady Lions outsmart opponents team’s talent level,” said Colleen Kelly, whose foul shot is a thing of beauty, “but we have battled and kept a lot of games close.” The Lady Lions have only managed to knock off three teams to this point, but have had another three games that were decided by ‘10 points or less. Another note of interest is that this team is just now starting to play with all of its members. “Saturday, when we lost in overtime, I felt we played great,” said Danielle Flain, “It was our first game playing with everyone suited up and available for action.” The first nine games of the season the team lacked the help of two important players of the squad. Danielle Flain, the team’s ball handling expert, and Sharena Robinson, who one can say is the “steal” curtain of this defense who just returned to action. So things are looking up for the team. One more thing that should benefit the ‘team as they make a run toward the playoffs is how well they get along and the closeness of the team. “Anyone who has been involved in a team sport knows that if the athletes spend time together and bond off the court, it usually translates into them playing well together on the court,” added Mandy Heilman. The mild- mannered Heilman is a fierce competitor once she steps onto the court. Of course, a team’s success can usually be traced back to coaching. “I am thrilled with our coaching staff,” said Jill Giosa, whose outside shooting is dev- astating to opposing teams and coaches, ANTEIA CONSORTO Sharena Robinson passes the ball to one of her fellow Lady Lion’s as they play against Delaware County Community College. “they are always willing to devote extra time to the team when we need it most.” Along with talented players like Ryan McCarthy and Carolyn Hilden, who are com- plete basketball players, and Sue Fagan, who owns the boards and low post, this team should represent our school well come playoff time. : Men’s basketball team covers the court By ANTHONY KOZLOWSKI Staff Writer If you're a basketball fan that’s interested in watching fast-paced games that are full of action, there’s no need to spend hundreds of dollars to attend a NBA game. You need not look any fur- ther than the men’s basketball team here at seen a team with a great deal of size, speed and most important- ly, talent. “I think our team is extreme- ly talented,” said Ed Corliss, who is a dominating force on the court. “Sometimes we don’t play to our full potential, but that’s one thing we are improving on,” Corliss said. The offense of this team is sharp and they execute well. Sweet, no-look passes, good ball distribution and great shot selec- tion are just a few of the things offense. “If we are struggling with something, we work on it until we feel it’s corrected,” Hall said. The defense can be best described as overwhelming. The constant hustle, great position- ing, rotation and rebounding make it tough for opposing teams to set up their offense and score points. : At press time, the Lion's record was 3-3 in the Penn State conference. But the record does- n't quite reflect how well the team is currently playing. constantly working to make improvements. JACQUE HALL 99 Penn State Delco. Hannibal Lector is at it again in “Hannibal.” The first installment was “Manhunter.” The plot has been said to follow the book very closely: Hannibal Lector, once again played by Anthony Hopkins, is stalked by one of his victims who evident- ly survived Lector’s atrocities. Julianne Moore replaces Jodie Foster's character, and other Hollywood hotshots like Gary Oldman and Ray Liotta show up on the scene. This horror flick is out just in time for Valentine's Day and should prove to destroy your romantic appetite. Down to Earth A romantic comedy starring Chris Rock (believe it or not) i is on its way to the- aters Feb. 16. “Down to Earth” is a remake of “Here Comes Mr. Jordan” from 1941. Rock plays a comedian that accidentally dies “before his time.” Upon reaching heaven, he is told that there is temporarily no room for him and that he will be called back later. He is sent back to earth in a white man’s body and falls in love during his stay. This date movie will feed your roman- tic spirit. Get Carter To be released on video Feb. 13 is Sly Stallone’s latest beat ‘em up movie is “Get Carter.” Stallone plays a doesn’t-take-crap- from-anybody hitman, who begins investi gating his brother’s death. Thespian extraordinaire Michael Caine also stars. “Get Carter” didn’t hold too well in the theaters but that’s why there’s video. This movie resembles the tough-guy premise as seen in “Payback,” starring Mel Gibson. It’s definitely worth a view for the guys, but the ladies could probably do with- out. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 On Feb. 20, “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2” hits video store shelves. This is the sequel to the almost historic “Blair Witch Project.” The movie begins where the first one left off and deals with the aftermath of the Blair Witch. The cast consists entirely of new names, and there are no Hollywood all stars. The story itself of the movie seems intriguing but somehow the magic was not recaptured. Unless you're a die-hard Blair Witch fan, leave this rental at the bottom of your list.
