Page 2 The Lion’s Eye December 7, 2000 Networking helps you get jobs By DORIS RUIZ Staff Writer The buzzwords at Penn State Delco’s Career Center? Networking, networking and networking. The process of developing relationships with other profes- sionals can help people in all phases of life move on to a more fulfilling or more lucrative career or lifestyle. Seventy to 80 percent of jobs are filled through networking, said Carol Minski, career devel- opment coordinator. She’s been working to help enhance the opportunities for Penn State students by putting together a series of career development programs. Just last month, Minski and Alumni coordinator Karl Grieb organized an alumni-networking luncheon. On Nov. 9, students who attended the lunch pro- gram got a chance to talk with many successful Penn State alumni. The event's keynote speaker was Tom Killion, vice president of KDB Resources. Killion grad- uated from Penn State in 1979 with a degree in Justice Administration and has held a variety of political posts since. Killion recalled a particular instance when who he knew was particularly in his political career. While assisting U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Thornbury, with his campaign, Killion said he made many friends who later helped him as he served two terms as chairman of the Delaware County Council. At the luncheon, Killion was awarded a certificate recogniz- ing his importance to Penn State. Better get to the Registrar’s office By ANTEIA CONSORTO Staff Writer Well, you've passed all your classes and have been measured for your gown. You're ready to graduate, right? Actually, not if you have an out- standing bill to pay. Have you paid your tuition? How about any outstanding parking tickets on campus? Have you turned in all of your required health and financial forms? If not, a hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to grad- gis until these things are taken care of. You could avoid the worry by paying your tuition in a timely manner and making sure any bills or tickets you have are paid off. Check to be sure all the forms you received in the mail were filled out and turned in. Also, be sure any books you checked out at the library were turned in. If not, when graduation day rolls around, you could be left out in the cold. Don’t wait to see if a hold is placed on your account. Take care of all finan- cial matters before graduation. Try going to the finance office to check your account. They can tell you if there is a hold on it due to outstanding bills. Anyone in the Registrar's office can look up your account and make sure everything is in order for you to gradu- ate. think about ...
