The J y ons PENNSTATE | Delaware County Eye Penn State University, Delavure County Campus August 24, 1998 Classroom Building Is Finally Completed By Aaron Mixson Campus construction finally comes to an end. After eighteen months in the making a classroom building with the advanced technol- ogy that puts Penn State Delco ahead of all the other Penn State system campuses emerges. The new building features six class rooms and five seminar rooms with the ability to seat sixty to eighty students, and a lecture hall to seat one hundred people. Each classroom and labora- tory will be capable of providing technology-enhanced learning, from Internet connections to teleconfer- encing, supporting academic classes in everything from history and mu- sic to engineering and science. The building will add over forty new per- sonal computers to the campus, “heightening the student to computer ratio 8 to 1”, explains Dr. Ed Tomesko, campus executive officer. The building cost an as- tounding $3.5 million. Included in that is an experiment with wireless networking, using radio frequencies to enable use of computers without use of additional ports. For relaxation, the building contains a beautiful and comfortable student lounge. Floor to ceiling win- dows on two sides look out onto a wrap-around patio and the woods beyond. The new classroom building provides much-needed classroom, office, and lounge space to a continously growing campus com- munity.
