Ms. Erie joined the campus on January 5, 1994. She comes from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where she did an excellent job as the Director of Admissions. Erie recently stated, “I feel that the Admissions Office is a place for students to be comfortable. Students play an important role for admissions. We should all work as a team.” Ms. Erie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University in experimental psychology and a Masters of Education from Penn State in special education. She also worked for Penn State ten years ago and claims, “It feels like coming home again.” The new Campus Marketing Team, composed of Ms. Erie, Mr. Joe Biscontini, the Regional Director of University Relations and Development, and Mr. Waverly Coleman, the Director of Continuing Education, will be chaired by Ms. Erie. She will also serve as a member of the Campus Retention Group to make sure that all campus activities are planned according to their impact on the students. According to Ms. Erie, it is extremely important for students to become involved. She said, “ I feel that as an institution, Delco should keep the students interested. When asked what she would like to do for Penn State in the future, Erie stated, “I just want people to know that Penn State exists!” SGA Secretary Kathy Artese Photo by: WES TOMLINSON government, Leo Club, field hockey lacrosse, and SADD. She reminds club officers that she needs receipts for all student expenditures for their club activities. One Hundred and Fifty Years Of Service To Penn State Delco By Jaime Wentworth “It makes me feel very proud- and very old,” replied Director of Public Relations for Penn State Delaware County Campus Joe Biscontini when asked about his recent 25-year anniversary of service to Penn State. “I do not feel like I have been here for 25 years. First of all, I'm not that old. I started here when Iwasé6. I mean really, does it make sense that somebody is sitting in a 25-year rocking chair listening to the Lemonheads?” ~ Before the move from Chester 20 years ago, Penn State Delaware County (in Media) was brand-spanking new. The Main Building was the only building on the campus. Twenty years later, the campus has expanded into three buildings, with another on the way, and has offered its many students some of the best faculty and staff available. Five faculty and one staff member in particular attended an ~ awards ceremony in their honor on December 1,1993 in recognition of their long standing service to Penn State 25 years later. These included Assistant Professor of English Richard Betts, Professor of Philosophy Robert Ginsberg, Associate Professor of Deborah Erie, New Director of Enrollment Management. Photo by: WES TOMLINSON History and Women’s Studies Priscilla Clement, Assistant Professor of Business Administration Michael Kersnick, Assistant Professor of Sociology Kenneth Kinman, and Director of Public Relations Joe Biscontini. Since the campus is relatively young, the procedure of the ceremony is rather new. Only in the past few years have 25-year awards been given. “This year’s ceremony included heartfelt but humorous introductions of the recipients by other colleagues, a reception, and a slide show “roasting” the six recipients,” explained Richard Betts. E>, The awards took the shape of black colonial rockers and straight backed chairs with gold trim emblazoned with the Penn State logo and personalized on theback. “I chose the rocker for comic value,” said Michael Kersnick. But on a more serious note Korenick added,”I love my job. and I am very happy to be at Penn State. I think it (the ceremony) reflects that we (the staff and faculty) like each other, we like the students, and we like the environment. I wouldn't want to be somewhere else.” | Twenty-five years of teaching at and service to Penn State brings with it an air of prestige which is especially worthy of the invaluable faculty and staff of Penn State Delco. When asked about the goals of her curriculum and style, recipient Priscilla Clement responded,” There have been several. One is to be student-centered in my teaching-to provide students with resources, guides, assistance in and outside the classroom, to facilitate their learning. Second, is to make History not only comprehensible but intriguing, exciting, and involving.” The staff of The Lion's Eye congratulates the recipients and looks forward to the up and coming ones.
