Page 6 — LION’SEYE — September 27, 1993 <Entertainmentss Delco Hosts Varied Acts by Jaime Wentworth From South America to the Middle East to North America comes the sound of Whiskey Tango. The duo, made up of violinist Robert Spates and guitarist Pete Fields, are bringing with them a unique virtuoso performance to the Penn State Delaware County Campus. Along with a continental flavor comes their appreciation for all types of music; rock, jazz, and world beat without the need of amps or drum machines. Both are accomplished musicians. Spates, being the most sought after classical violinist in Washington D. C., is routinely asked to perform for the President and other world leaders at the Kennedy Center. Fields, a Polygram recording artist with a mastery of classical guitar, is not only an innovative studio musician, producer, and recording engineer but also commands audiences abroad with his talent. The duo will be performing outside the cafeteria during common hour on September 24. Admission is free. Coming to Penn State on October 14 is the famous mime Trent Arterberry. Trent began his career in the 1970’ s after leaving pre-med studies at UCLA to become a mime’s apprentice. Since then his many teachers have included the famed Marcel Marceau. Between 1976 and 1982 Trent performed across the United States and Europe (many of these performances within hours of each other) and in 1983, after hundreds of campus appearances, he was honored as “Campus Performing Artist of the Year”. His performance may include The Flight of Icarus, The Jabberwock, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Bug- Catcher's Dream, and more. Arterberry will also be performing outside of the cafeteria during common hour. Admission again is free. Mime Trent Arterberry, coming to Delco October 14. See any movies? If you missed the chance to go to the theater, why not go out in the near future and rent one of this summer’s box office smashes. Taking first place in the starting gate isSliver, staring William Baldwin and Pennsylvainia’s own Sharon Stone. This movie is about a woman (Stone) who moves into a new apartment in a highrise in New York, which happens to be the same apartment that a former tenant fell to her death from just months before. The events and other tenants seem to be very peculiar until William Baldwin makes his entrance into the film. Baldwin befriends Stone in the beginning, and soon things get a little hotter. Butin the end many mysterious occurrences leads Stone to believe she has made a mistake. Next on the list is Poetic Justice, a Hits For Fun story about a depressed hairdresser (played by Janet Jackson) who consoles herself by writing poetry and falling in love with a mailman (played by Tupac Shacar). This is a good movie to see especially if you want to laugh. Eventhough it has a weak plot, the actor's comedic attitudes keep it going well. Lastly, .Jurassic Park was this summer’s ultimate box office smash hit . This movie received many good reviews and drew large crowds of kids, teens, and adults to the movie theater. To tell you any detail about this movie would be spoiling your entire experience. All that can be said is that this is a story about an amusement park which when visited by some curious children, it becomes more than they bargained for. This movie is a definite classic. If you have not ventured out this summer to the movies , then make sure you see these hot picks first when you hit the video store. Upcoming Concerts the Remedy For Back-to-School Blues By Martyna Sliwinska After school starts and the summer slowly fades away and work seems to pile up beyond our worst expectations, there still must be time for entertainment. Luckily, the Philadelphia Concert Authority decided to make the “back to school” transition easier on young people by bringing the best concerts of the year to the area. Dead Rocks The Spectrum By s. cohoon The Dead were recently in town again so the semester is off to a good start. That's the Grateful Dead, in town at the Philadelphia Spectrum, and the semester is Fall 1993 at PSU Delco. Probably more than twenty students from the campus attended one or all three of the concerts. It’s difficult to get a good estimate on these things so I'm being real conservative (I know seven personally). Judging from the array of Penn State garb seen at the show( everything from Rathskellar shirts to PSU hats to fraternity T-shirts showing both Penn State and Grateful Dead logos). Delaware County was not the only Penn State Campus represented at the concert. The Grateful Dead presented their unique form of rock and roll entertainment in a series of three, sold out as always, performances to the perpetual delight of the troops of fans, some of whom follow them around the country. I never cease to be amazed at the consistency of the audience for a band which gets so little airplay and does so little promotion for their concerts. The best explanation is the consistent technical quality and constant freshness (never the same show twice) which pervades the band’s music and concert production. The latter, including the current prohibition of vending and camping, which has dramatically increased in quality over the past few years. After Philadelphia, the band contintued to New York City and is, at the time of this paper's release, going to begin a six night stand at the Boston Garden. Billy Joel will play 6 (six) shows at the Spectrum, beginning in late September and ending in mid- October. PHOTO BY: SPECTRUM
