Vol. XXIV, No. 8 The ions Eye Penn State University, Delaware County Campus May 3, 1993 25 Students To Get Degrees At Graduation By Emily Damanskis Commencement at the Delaware County Campus takes place at 7:00 p-m. on Thursday, May 13. The ceremony will be held in the Library Learning Center. Twenty-five students are graduating from this campus. Fourteen Baccalaureate degrees, and eleven Associate degrees will be awarded. Although all students are eligible to graduate at University Park on May 15 and 16, a few students from U.P. who have started out on our campus have chose to come down here to graduate. The ceremony will include the following: an introductory greeting by Campus Executive Officer Ed Tomezsko, the presentation of the diplomas, during which the students will be given a chance to say a few words if they choose, and the presentation of scholastic awards. The guest Commencement speaker will be Ms. Gwendolyn S. Photo by: EMILY DAMANSKIS Picnic and Awards Ceremony Climax Delco’s Spring Week By Kaspar Stromme Velcro Jumping, Karaoke, and Live Bands! Do any of the above activities sound familiar? If the answer is yes, chances are you attended SPRINGWEEK '93 right here at Delco. An annual traditon, Spring Week usually comes around close to the end of the semester, providing students with a needed break from their studies. Held during common hour most days during the week of April 19 to 23, Spring Week provided varied and enjoyable entertainment. The week started with karaoke outside the cafeteria. A crowd of about 30 students watched in horror as fellow Delco students were challenged to sing along, in performances that brought back memories of Milli-Vanilli’s glory days. The music was not quite up to date, but this didn't hinder anybody. Photo by: DIANA MICERI by Sophomore Artin Armani's heart- warming rendition of Moon River. Wednesday featured velcro jumping, an activity that drew some attention. Located outside the main building was a 10-feet wall covered in velcro. Hurdling themselves towards it were students wearing a velcro suit. A small trampoline strategically placed in front of the wall helped students defy gravity for the tenths of a second they were flying through the air. One who dared the Wall of Velcro was Senior Diana Miceri. "It was fun, but I didn't realize that they would turn me upside down" And on Thursday there was a band. Generation, a classic rock cover band played outside the Commons Building. Donations were accepted throughout the concert, with AIDS research being the deserving recipient. Photo by: DIANA MICERI Summer Plans Include Work, Study and Fun By Emily Damanskis Summer break is almost here, so The Lion's Eye recently surveyed 20 Delco students to see what some of them have planned for their summer vacations. ; The majority of those surveyed, 75%, plan to work this summer. Some of the jobs mentioned were daycare, the Air Force, and an internship. Richard McFadden, a Criminal Justice major, said, “I have an internship this summer at the Delaware County Courthouse for the Adult and Juvenile Parole Board. I'll be working with ex- convicts to see if they are meeting their standards at home and at work.” The next most mentioned plan for summer was going to school. 6% of those surveyed are taking full or part time classes over their summer break. Joe Fletcher, a Secondary Education major, said, “I am taking a science class this summer to complete some of the requirements for my major.” The smallest group were those who mentioned something enjoyable that they planned to do for the summer. Only 2% of those surveyed said anything about enjoying their vacation. These activities included playing paintball, traveling, writing songs, and sleeping.
