\ September 20, 1991 — LION’SEYE — Page 11 Delco Strikes Out; Seeks Better Luck Next Time By Shawn P. Cullen The Delaware County Campus opened their 1991 Baseball season by losing a double header 24-9 and 10-9 to PSU Berks County. - Despite the team’s tough start, Coach Jim Diskin thinks with players like shortstop Steve Pellini, second baseman Tommy Redden, and pitcher Sean Dalton, that the team will be Ain contention come play-off time. With only four players returning from last year’s squad, the team is “very unexperienced, and according to the coach, the pitching staff is “very young and needs to adjust to ALL-U-DAY! The coach hopes to teach the young staff some new pitches to help stymie opposing hitters. Hitting was not a problem in the season’s opener. The team batted an impressive .360 against Berks. To stay in the running for a play-off spot, the team must play well against the powerhouses of the division, Ogontz and Berks. Home field is a vital asset to the team’s success, so be sure to come out and show your support. The next game is Sept 17th, away at Ogontz. Delco’s baseball team await their turn at bat. In agreement Dennis Brennan, a team player says, “We have a strong, deep team.” Brennan, who feels he is a better doubles player, won second singles in last years CCAC championships at University Park. He is a sophomore this year and is the teams number one player. Following Brennan is player Nhieu Vuong, a sophomore who was runner up last year in the CCAC championships with third singles. In third is Ben Slater, also a sophomore who was last years number five player. The team’s other sophomores this year are Kevin Bradley at number five, Jonathon Cross at number six and Brian Phipps at number seven. _ The two freshman to the team are Steve Myers, Ridley High School's number one player, ranking at number four for Delco’s team, and Todd Pegler from West Chester East Banners Display Delco Achievements by Frances Callahan We are “Penn State Proud”! They repelled 60-foot. building and experienced the Slide for Life. The purpose of this trip was to build the confidence of the cadets and help them to overcome their fears of heights and things that one normally wouldn’t do. Other campuses that were in attendance were Ogontz, Schuylkill, and Berks. c\CSM Rich Clifford said that he really enjoyed the day, but since he hadn’t repelled in a while he was a little weary. c\CSM Clifford stated that he didn’t learn anything new because he was in charge of making sure that everyone's Swiss seat was on right and he tied in the ropes. But ‘the new cadets encountered an experience that they will never forget. c\CSM (Clifford recommends this day to everyone because it’s a lot of fun. He said that the best part of the day was the 60-foot skid-repelling from the helicopter. Most of the events that take place are frightening to most cadets at first but there is no feeling in the world like it once they’ve overcome their fears. Unfortunately, the day ended early because there was a wasp hive on the building. c\CSM Clifford was very enthusiastic about ‘Adventure Day. He encourages all cadets to experience it and not to be afraid because everyone has natural fears. This is definitely one way to overcome them. “It’s a lot of fun and the main point is to overcome natural fears of heights,” ¢\CSM Clifford answered.
