See your words in print! “I knew that the cost of books was high, but this is highway robbery!” Check-Out Connie At The Cafeteria A long way from the Plus Super- market that she worked at for three years, Mrs. Connie Di Galblo finds herself serving yet another year with a “lot of great kids’ at the Penn State Delaware Campus. In her seventh year, “Connie’’ arrives at the cafeteria at 6:30 every morning to ‘‘just get things going”. She says that one of the best things about working with young people is the fact that they “Lift me up”. When asked how she landed this job, she credited it to her old job at the Supermarket “I was ringing for Mr. Perry, a customer who came through my line often, and he asked me if I wanted to work over at the Penn State Delaware Campus cafeteria.” At that time the cafeteria was located in the SLAM Center and the company that was runn- ing the cafeteria was Nutrition Manage- ment. When the companies switched, Connie was asked to stay on as Food Manager for All Seasons Food Services, but she was going to have to take a ‘‘big salary cut”. A mother of two, Connie realized that she really did “love being with all these kids,” so she decided that the best thing for her to do was to stay. Unbeknown to her, it would turn out to be the best thing for Penn State in the long run. However, being in charge of the cafe doesn’t always require one be constantly working. “Some of the best times actual- ly came from work and the kids.” A prime example of this is when the spatula was buried and a formal funeral was held. “At the front of the line was Pete, a former employee in the cafe, car- rying the spatula and behind him were about two hundred kids all with tears in their eyes!” When asked what she really thinks of her job, she responded without hesita- tion, “‘I love it, and that is only because by Chuck McCarthy of the great people that I work with and all the wonderful kids.” She did, however, say that she would love to see more involvement by the students in all the different activities that happen here on campus. There are many things here that make the Delaware Campus stand out from the others, and you can be sure that Mrs. Connie DiGalbo is on that list. (If you would like to nominate anyone here at Penn State for the ‘‘Spotlight”’, just leave your nomination in the Lion’s Eye mailbox with a brief explanation why.)
