Pages — LION'SEYE — November 2, 1982 Lostve SPORTS Delco Boosters: Continue to drop BOMBS by Mark von Berg Another Victim PSU York visited Delco on Saturday, October 9 and didn’t exactly get a warm, friendly greeting. Delco came out ag- gressively, showing York who was in charge. Delco took a 1-0 lead into the second half on a goal by Paul Monte. In the second half, Terry Montgomery rallied for a goal to give Delco a 2-0 win. Strong defense by Mark Her- man, Dave McArthur, Shahriar Pasdar and Paul Monte held York to six shots. None of which gave goalkeeper Tony Dippolito any trouble. Scott Plyle, Bob Beckelman, Mark Munley, Dom Bair, Paul Monte, Terry Montgomery, Tom Wierchecki, Mark Dych and Bill Jarrell put in strong games for Delco. The Delco Lion's are unbeaten at 9-0. Dip- polito’s shutout total for the season is five. Delco Still Unbeaten The Lions continued their unbeaten string to 11 in a row. They matched wits with North- eastern Christian College and clobbered them 4-0. Through their cool, calm and collect com- posure, the Lions rattled their opponent into making dump plays offensively as well as defensively. In the first half Tom Wiechecki opened the Lions scoring with a towering drive from just outside the 18 that went through the opposing goalies hands. Minutes later, Mark Herman put one into the twine to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Hermans goal was set up by Paul Monte and Mark Dych. With a few minutes left in the half Wiechecki struck again. This time with a little chip shot over the goalie. During the second half, Northeathern put new blood in- to the net. Mark Munley welcomed him kindly with a powerful low shot that stayed about a foot above the ground until it hit the net. Hard working Bill Jarrell put in his best game of the year. With the score at 3-0 Jarrell ~ Shahriar helped to set up Munley’s goal by pressuring the defense, as well as the goalie. Pete McGillen also contributed with a strong game. On defense, Matt Zuras, Pasdar and Dave McArthur held Northeastern to only five shots. Tony Dippolito recorded his third shutout of the season. Let's Get Physical Delco defeated PSU Mont Alto 2-1 in probably the most physical game of the season. Pat Bianco, Mark Munley scored the goals and Bob Beckelman had an assist. Swarthmore J.V. Bows to Delco Delco got goals from Terry Montgomery, Pat Bianco and Mark Munley to give them a 3-1 ~ victory over Swarthmore Col- - lege’s J.V. team. The Lions got a strong game from Mark Dych. Delco outshot S.J.V. 13-8. : PSU Downs DCCC On only 13 shots, the Lions downed Delaware County Com- munity College 4-0. The goals were scored by Terry Mon- tgomery, Pat Bianco and two by Mark Dych. Strong performances were put in by Mark Munley and Shahriar Pasdar. Tony Dip- polito had an easy day register- ing his fourth shutout of the season. Montgomery Ignites Delco PSU Delco took on PSU Hazelton on Saturday, October 16, here at Delco and won 6-0. Delco was led by Terry Mon- tgomery (2 goals), Bill Jarrell (1 goal and 1 assist) and Rob Buchanan (1 goal and 1 assist). Strong performances were put in by Mark Dych, who scored a goal on a penalty kick, Scott Plye (1 goal), Tom Wiechecki (1 assist), Paul Monte (1 goal) and by Mark Chi Hoang Paddles to Victory The first annual Spirit Week Ping Pong Tournament went over well. The tournament started out with twenty players. The games were played over a span of ten days. The Undergraduate Student Association sponsored the tour- nament in co-coperation with the Student Activities Commit- tees. Trophies were given to the first and second place finishers. On Monday, October 18 the semi-finals were held facing Chi Hoang against Mitchel Teitlbaum. Chi Hoang won the «i first' semi-final match’ in ‘over- time, 24-22. In the second semi- final match Mike Boas went against Tom Sexon with Bike Boas winning 21-17. The Championship game was held Wednesday October 20 during the Interval before a crowd of sixth onlookers. The Championship was a best of three matches. Mike Boas went to the lead early in both games, but could not hold off the more impressive Chi Hoang, who came back strongly in both games to caputre the first place “trophy. ne EPL : Munley. Goalkeeper Tony Dip- polito played another strong game in recording his sixth shutout. The Lions are now 11-0. Delco 10-0 Best Record Ever The Nittany Lion's had an easy time of it on October 14 against Williamson. The Lion's humiliated them with a 9-1 route. > Mark Munley had two goals as eight Lion's shared in the scoring. Bill Jarrell, Scott Pyle, Tom Wiechecki, Mark Dych, Terry Montgomery, Dave DeLong and Rob Buchanan all chipped in with goals for Penn State. Carolyn Ferris competed in the free style forms against other women from various col- leges and studios. She placed a very respectable second. Robert Hollenbeck compéted in two events, the free style forms and sparing.
