SPORTS SHORTS Home Court Advantage y = NEW YORK — The field house at nearby Villanova University was listed as one of ‘10 Places College Coaches Hate to Visit” in an issue of Inside Sports magazine. The Villanova Wildcats play half of their home basketball games at the ‘Cat House’, which seats 3,000. The other half are played at the Palestra as Big Five doubleheaders. : Since 1960, the Wildcats have had a .859 winning percentage at home, with an 85-15 record. On the road, the team’s record is 148-109 (.576). Those figures do not include the current season. Other great home court advantages listed were Notre Dame U., U. of Arkansas, U. of Pacific, U. of Nevada, Bradley U., Florida State U., Panhandle State U., Duke U., and Johnson C. Smith U. Paterno ‘Overrated 2 NEW YORK — Penn State’s head football coach and athletic director Joe Paterno was included among the five most overrated - college football coaches in a recent issue of Inside Sports magazine. : Despite having the second-best winning percentage (.817 before the 1980 season) among active coaches, Paterno has made coaching errors that were partially responsible for Penn State losses in three of its last six bowl appearances, the magazine said. In the 1979 Sugar Bowl, when the Nittany Lions had a chance to clinch the national title, Penn State lost valuable field position because it had 12 men on the field for an Alabama punt. _ The magazine listed Alabama head coach Bear Bryant among the five best college football coaches. Bryant has won six national championships and is close to becoming the winningest coach in college football history. Hostetler to Transfer UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State quarterback Jeff Hostetler, who started three games for the Nittany Lions this season before losing his position to freshman Todd Blackledge, had decided to transfer to another school, the Daily Collegian reported. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” he said. ‘‘Just not play- ing was the main reason (for leaving),” he told the Collegian. The 6-2, 212-pound sophomore mentioned Michigan State, West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio State as possible choices. Hostetler’'s father, who announced the decision to the Har- risburg Patriot earlier this month, said circumstances surrounding Penn State’s 14-9 loss to Pitt may have affected the decision. The Daily Collegian quoted the elder Hostetler as saying, “One of the assistants told him he was to have started against Pitt and told him (Penn State) would have won if he would have played.” — Compiled by Harry MacCartney CLASSIFIED as Haverford School, participated in basketball, soc- HELP WANTED EARN UP TO $1,000 or more for a" few evenings work.
